Fueled by Tea Party supporters, conservatives and high-interest GOP primary voters, former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain now leads the race for the Republican presidential nomination, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

snip

Cain checks in as the first choice of 27 percent of Republican voters in the poll, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 23 percent and Perry at 16 percent. After those three, it’s Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 11 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent, Bachmann at 5 percent and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman at 3 percent.

Are you serious? This is a primary...are you telling me in the generals that 73% of Republicans won’t vote for Cain? What about those who have lower numbers than he has? Both of you have faulty logic.

I’m not going anywhere. I’m just back to being a freelancer, rather than a member of some herd.

Because nibbling at the edges of an unwieldy system of taxation is so much more effective.

You guys should buy this strawman in bulk----save some bread.

By the way, I’m not asking for perfection. Clearly nothing close to that is on the menu. But I’ll adamantly oppose certain things, like a national sales tax, come hell or high water. It’s not my fault Cain’s defining issue is a total loser.

Besides, we can decide what to buy, and if we don’t want to pay the 9% tax to buy something, then we don’t buy it.

Spoken like a RED MEAT crowd member drinking the TALKER Cain kool-aid. However even for a RED MEAT crowd member this statement is foolish beyond belief.

9-9-9.

If your analysis of the revenues if produces is low, you’re wrong

If I don’t like your question... Next question

If you’re a woman and you want an abortion, it’s your right, even though I’m personally against it

Rick Perry showed insensitivity with the “rock”, even though his dad painted over it decades ago, and they leased it

I’d support ever candidate but Perry

I’d be Romney’s running mate (I even supported the liberal slime in ‘08)

My 9-9-9 plan raises taxes on elderly and most low-earners, and can be jacked up by congress to any number, but it’s still 9-9-9- my one platform and I’m sticking to it

I will attack Romney, not perry, at the NH debate... Ooops, I lied

I want to run the country, in times of huge crisis, even though I have zero experience... POTUS is an entry level job, dontchyaknow? Even though the biggest decision I ever made was what toppings to offer on a pizza, I want to run the most powerful country in the world, during the biggest financial crisis on our lifetime

I havE almost no money and prefer to go on a book tour rather than campaign for a month... Oh yeah, and constantly praise Romney and offer no critique of Romneycare, or any other liberal view

I LOVE Greenspan, and can only name one obscure economist that helped formulatE my economic plan...

Did I miss anything... And Perry makes one comment and you folks blast him into oblivion.

Cain has NOT been vetted, and will be destroyed by Obama and the media, IMHO

So the Presidency is for sell to the highest bidder?

If you are half as conservative as you claim to be you need to pray that Herman Cain does make it, because if we have become a nation where only the rich or well connected can become President and with conservatives like you cheering them on and agreeing that’s the way it should be we will not be a free people for long.

If it goes to 15-9-15, Cain will go to the bottom of my list in a NY minute. If I were to take a wild shot, it might morph into 12-10-5 or 11-11-5 which drops federal sales tax down to 5%. A 15% sales tax is a non-starter for me.

Sometime you'll have to tell us who you do like.

I happen to like Cain........a lot. He's honest. He's highly intelligent. He's a leader. He's got a lot of qualities that we need right now in a President.

I haven't decided on the 9-9-9 thing, but I like that he's thinking flat tax, and that he's thinking outside the box.

I want the FairTax. I have wanted the FairTax for more than a decade.

I wish Cain would emphasize that 999 is a transition to the FairTax. Many, many people understand and support that one.

“Cain’t imagine in my wildest dreams, that the tea party members will go for a natioal sales tax.”

The tea party, for the most part, loves the FairTax.

Cain should get more support for this - not less.

He started out this campaign pitching the fair tax, but ditched it for 9-9-9, which tells me he knows the fair tax would be even harder to sell. Much easier to sell the unrealistic 9-9-9 then to try selling a 30% consumption tax.

Try telling seniors, who vote, and who have already been taxed on their earnings, their savings, and their investments, that now the "conservatives" are going to make them pony up another 30%! Yeah, that'll fly /s

The 9-9-9 idea is a “hook” for campaigning. When you think Cain, you think 9-9-9. It’s something easy to remember, and it conveys a concept of fairness. It may help him get elected, or it may be his downfall if the media are able to discredit the idea.

But, really, Congress determines the taxes. And whatever actually gets done, after the states have their say, and lobbyists have their input, the result will very likely not be a 9-9-9 plan. Cain will have his opportunity to try to prod them into going along with his concept, but the bill which comes to him for signature will be different, and he will sign it because something is better than nothing.

That’s as dumb as folks proposing a Palin/Bachmann ticket.. We’d lose 50 states, as we’d be viewed to be pandering

Don't hold your breath! I wish I could tell you. But the truth is, I dislike all of them. I'm going to make a decision before I enter the voting booth when the primary hits NJ in June 2012, but by then it could be a completely situational decision.

Who will be in the race by then? What will be the dynamics? What will my choices be, and on what basis will I make them?

If you asked me to name a choice today, I'd be completely flummoxed. My main sentiment is that the GOP is a barren wasteland, totally lacking in executive talent. It's actually shocking to me how bad it is.

But I'll do my civic duty come June 2012, and make the best choice to the best of my ability and judgement.

In the back of my mind, I keep hearing the Democractic branding down the line, “A risky scheme” ala Al Gore to Dole’s tax plan back in the day.

And Cain’s retort will be?? Nothing

Santorum nailed Cain yesterday.. Cain keeps talking about how America wants 9-9-9. Rick asked the audience- not one person raised his/her hand

Can’t believe so many of you fall for this guy, who has no record, only going on what he says...

Hell, Romney lies with the best of them, and you see right through him!
