Washington, D.C. Today, Nevada Senator Harry Reid discussed how Republican obstruction is costing Nevadans thousands of jobs following last nights vote where they blocked the American Jobs Act, which would have helped struggling families and small businesses in Nevada by putting people back to work.
In spite of Nevadans demanding action on job creation, all we are getting from Washington Republicans is obstruction and stall tactics to score political points, said Reid. The time is long past for both parties to come together to create jobs in Nevada by helping small businesses hire workers; rebuilding our roads, bridges and schools; and putting money back into the pockets of middle-class families.
President Obamas American Jobs Act Impact In Nevada
o Make investments of more than $250 million to create 3,300 jobs by modernizing Nevadas roads, bridges, dams and infrastructure.
o Invest $168 million to put 2,200 construction crew workers back to work renovating and modernizing our public schools
o Provide more than $258 million to save and create 3,600 jobs for Nevadas teachers and first responders.
o Invest $585 million in communities in the state that have been devastated by foreclosures
o Nearly $40 million to modernize Nevadas community colleges
o Provide a payroll tax cut to approximately 50,000 firms in Nevada to help them hire.
o The average Nevada family would receive a tax cut of around $1,500 through the payroll tax cut.
o The Pathways Back to Work program would provide nearly 5,000 youth and adults opportunities to work and get needed job training.
o Extend unemployment insurance for thousands of Nevadans who are still struggling to find work.
o The plan will do all of this, without adding a penny to the deficit.

Nevada's unemployment rate is 13.4 percent.
A perp walk should be in harry's future.
He did not have the votes of his own party to pass this bill!
Republicans not needed.
Harry’s only concern is how he can line his own pockets.
I don’t get it. How can Reid get away with saying this when the Democrats have a majority in the Senate? A simple party line vote would get it passed with no chance of the Republicans being able to stop it. How do people not get it?!?!
Reid has the same amnesia that Obama has and hopes everyone else does. He acts like the last three years never happened.
The listing reads more like booty, as though responsible governments do not plan to take care of themselves. Reid just wants to continue to spend money we do not have, thanks to cronyism and the spendthrift Democrats. All of the states have listings of projects they want to complete.
Mindless spending without revenue and without a budget eventually does not work. And adding tax burden to those already carrying the load is counter-productive.
If private business disappears, guess who suffers.
Prince Harry forgot to add “government jobs controlled by SEIU”.
Last time I checked, the U.S. Senate was controlled by the RATS — that is why they have a RAT “Majority” Leader; they are the majority.
There's only ONE Nevadan I'd like to see out of a job, and HE is the one of the real reasons that Nevada and the rest of the Country has such high unemployment!
Within hours of Obama's remark Reid fired off a statement warning Obama to "lay off Las Vegas."
Reid's statement read in part that "the President needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn't be spending their money." Later in the day Obama responded to Reid.
"I wasn't saying anything negative about Las Vegas," Obama's letter stated. "I was making the simple point that families use vacation dollars, not college tuition money, to have fun. There is no place better to have fun than Vegas, one of our country's great destinations."

nice art work there
Hairy Reed is such a moron he’s going to give other morons a bad name!!
The man has no shame, completely evil.
I’d like to kick his ass, literally.
The rhetoric about the $1500 that each family could save comes from the reduction of the employee’s portion of deductions for Social Security (FICA). That is assuming an annual gross wage of $75,000. I worked from age 17 to today, age 71 & I never earned $75,000 a year. So that is a big fat lie he is telling the Voters——again.
Such reduction is only putting Social Security on the Super Fast track to run out of money.
Let’s say that there are 150 million people still working in this country.
Let’s say they are all only making $10 per hour—times 2040 hours a year is a gross pay annually of $20,400.00
150 million times $20,400 annually is $3,060,000,000,000 or 3 trillion, 60 billion dollars.
With the REDUCTION to the employee of 2% of that gross, that means that the Social Security funds are losing $61,200,000,000 or 61 Billion, 200 million dollars annually.
We all know that there are lots of people who make up to & exceed the limit on Social Security deductions, which is just over $100K a year. I deliberately used a low rate of pay to make my point.
Dirty Harry kept assuring all of us during his re-election campaigning that “Social Security wasn’t in any trouble & that it ‘might’ need tweaking in about 2035, but it was FINE”. He lied & he knew it. Since his re-election was assured by ACORN & illegal voters, he didn’t care & he doesn’t expect to get called on it.
If I have done a math error, please let me know.
If these provisions were put in that stupid bill for Nevada, what was in it for the other 49 (or is it 56) states?
Reid didn’t want to bring it to the floor for a vote. Shouldn’t his constituents have been screaming at him then?
Some things just don’t make any sense anymore. Correction - NOTHING makes any sense anymore!
