Besides the VAT aspect the plan the idea of a national sales tax doesn't appeal to me in the least - another camel nose under the tent.
If there's anyone out there who thinks the payroll component will be kept at 9% needs their head checked as well.

I have a question for you and for all who keep asking the irrational question "What's to stop a future Congress from raising any component of it?"
What's to stop the CURRENT Congress, or any in the future, from raising the income tax? The Medicare tax? The Social Security tax? The sales tax? The gas tax?
Wake up. The President has proposed raising taxes at least a dozen times since being in office. People are protesting right now demanding that taxes be raised. The only thing that stops taxes from being raised is the vigilance of both the American people and the representatives in Congress. This holds true for all taxation. Stop acting like it's unique to Cain's plan.
