” 9% sales tax would not kill any one paired with 9% flat tax.”

Being a businessman I feel Cain has put a marker out there, coupled with the bigger picture - repeal the current code.

He’s bold enough to be strategic, where to date the others are “ sound bite” tactical.

Sure I want to see more, and he will have to do that at some point.

I think he’s keeping it simple to shape the debate, and then will show if he really has it when it comes to the details, impacts we all deserve to know.

Beagle9U:It only does away with taxes on dividends paid out by business. Dividend income will be taxed under his plan

Dividends are all ready taxed as Capital Gains which is taxes at WAY higher then 9. So NICE are disinfomration but again completely divorced from the facts

Huh? What's emotional is people's reaction to this opening hook. The goal of a speaker is to grab people's attention. I doubt she was seriously arguing Cain's plan was bad because “it has the mark of the beast” on it. Gees. Obviously, it did grab attention because I see as many people commenting on it as the real substance that followed it. You'll note Herman's last name. Therefore, he is doomed to wander the earth under the curse of G_d!

It is much easier to tweak (raise) existing tax than to create totally new tax.

Thank you for giving the lie to everyone of your attack posts on 9-9-9. You just admitted there that your complaints about 9-9-9 are completely baseless.

Right. Except after we pass Cain's plan there's now a sales tax they can raise, too.

Sheesh.

“9-9-9 actually makes it much harder to raise taxes. Since everyone pays, everyone knows any tax hike will be paid by
them personally.”

We have pretty solid evidence how sales tax hike would work.
Europe introduced low sales tax and somehow it is now around 20% and going up all the time, bit by bit. So it is guaranteed to go up. It is much easier to hike it as the evidence in Europe in the last 20 years has shown.

Anyway, what irritates me most is the absolute ignorance of some people here, when they are claiming that it would prevent future tax hikes because of some imaginary 2/3 change requirement in the law. Even a child would know that Congress is not bound by the existing law, as it can freely rewrite it. Hiking sales tax is always easier (”0.5% hike for the blind orphans”), or extra 2% for this or that category.

Once the new tax is in place, it will be increased and differentiated (food: 0%, guns: 20% etc).

Q&A wasn't what people were looking for. Cain said he'd attack Romney in the debate...and didn't dare step into that. Nicy nicy is what I saw. IF his question to him and it was to make a point of his simple tax plan. 999 plan is actually a joke. Pie in the sky...how fast would you expect the tax code to go down in flames...NEVER? Even if it did...Cain says 999 wouldn't go up as long as he is president. Give me a break... neophyte...just more rhetoric rhetoric rhetoric...not a record to stand on.

RE: I doubt she was seriously arguing Cain’s plan was bad because “it has the mark of the beast” on it

Gee people, lighten up. That remark was a play on words to catch people’s attention. It is NOT an attempt to tag 9-9-9 as a devilish plot.

We all know the remark : “The devil is in the details”, and we all know that 6-6-6 is the mark of the beast ( inspired by the devil ).

What Bachmann is trying to do is to get people to LOOK AT THE DETAILS OF THE PLAN, That’s all there is to it !!

Lighten up !! Sheesh !

Personally I think the American Idol style judgements of the candidates makes us no better than the leftards.

Go to their websites and look at their plans.

I have, have you?

Perry doesn't have any plans.

Paul's plans are insane.

Santroum, Huntsman and Bachman play around the edges but avoid doing anything to serious reform and control the Fed Government.

We know Romney's plans are all campaign garbage he will drop the minute he gets the nomination.

Newt has some good and substantial plans but he is going now where.

Which leaves Cain as the only one with a real agenda of reform and restructuring the Fed Government

So it seems the Cult of Personality American Idol voters are the ones not in the Cain camp.

Bachman looked interesting but kept making simple gaffs that left me with the impression she might be okay in Congress but being President was out of her league.

RE :"i really dont understand how the catcher, mitt, is even still being talked about..."

The RINO/North-East/midstate-East base truely believes that Romney has the best shot at beating Obama ...and that he has brilliant economic fixes, much like the Perry-dactus with Perry and I guess the Palinista's with Palin, althought that last group really became hard to explain as time went on. They claimed they had a overwhelming massive number of 'Palin' voters that somehow evaded all the polls and had not voted since Reagan if at all and would wait till next year for her to announce.

Unless there is something in Cain's proposal that voids state sales taxes if 999 is passed we Californians can look forward to an 18% cumulative sales tax on every non food purchase (provided the nat'l rate stays at 9%).

I wonder if anyone has investigated the impact that would have on the economy.

Actually I like Cain but unlike you I’ve read over all of their actual plans. You obviously haven’t or you would know just how wrong you are.

That was a legitmate shot to Herman’s plan

No it not. It is an utterly irrational complaint to make about 9-9-9.

There is nothing that stops the current tax rates from being hiked by Congress.

The notion that 9-9-9 gives Congress MORE power, as Tax Lawyer Bachaman claimed, is completely divorced from reality. Congress has that power now, there is nothing in 9-9-9 that gives them any more power then they currently have now.

9-9-9 actually makes it much harder to raise taxes. Since everyone pays, everyone knows any tax hike will be paid by them personally.

9-9-9 eliminates ALL the current loopholes Congress currently has in the Tax Code to favor this or that group. It also eliminates any ability to pass off goverment spending as someone else paying for what you are getting. Since everyone pays, everyone knows they will pay more to “get stuff” from the Government.

So find a new attack line cause that one is completely baseless

Cutting spending and lowering taxes is good enough for now.

No it is not. That is the good little GOP propaganda line we have heard since the 1980s. The problem is we cut taxes and we NEVER get the spending cuts. You will never get any serious restructuring of the US Government as long as you leave the build-in invectives to tax and spend in the current tax code untouched. Without fundamental reform to the tax code, all you are doing is the exact same thing everyone since Reagan has done, tinker around the edges without accomplishing anything lasting.

Since entering the presidential race, Bachmann has barely had a moment of NOT sounding lame. Such a disappointment. She really should have just double downed on her Congressional role. Now, she’s nothing but annoying. And feeding the perception of her flakehood.
