Harrisburg City Council votes 4-3 in favor of Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy protection ( PA )

Harrisburg City Council answered the state’s takeover threat by voting to seek Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy protection Tuesday night, essentially adding the courts and more turmoil to the fight over the capital city’s fate.

The same majority who voted down the state-sponsored Act 47 plan and Mayor Linda Thompson’s followup fiscal-recovery plan voted 4-3 to hire Philadelphia-area lawyer Mark Schwartz to fight the takeover and then 4-3 to file for bankruptcy as soon as possible.

...

"Wake up, Harrisburg. Wake up and look around,” Smith said. “I’m tired of being bent over and spanked in the corner. We should have been filing for bankruptcy in 2010.”

It is a disgrace that Harrisburg is the capital of Pennsylvania..........
The city is broke, crime ridden, dirty and has nothing that would make anyone want to visit.............

Harrisburg is run by Democrats and for Democrats.

Rendell ought to be taken out to the woodshed. He presided over this decline.

Our state historical museum and the Civil War museum are both worth the visit. Other than that...

Keep a watch on these municipal defaults.
When they ask a state for a bailout and the state refuses or can’t, this is the “first domino”.

Make sure you have your preps in place, and anything that you’ve been putting off, get it taken care of.

I live in the SW corner and never even think about Harrisburg, thus .. I had no idea this problem existed.

I suppose I should at least guess that socialist enclaves were at least surviving off of the public tax teat ...

Anyway, I'd just as soon see it go down in ruins.

After reading the article, I came away with the notion that the socialists were riding the jaackass that was enlisted many years ago to carry them around, and that jackass really had died in the 90's, but they're still beating that dead ..... jackass.

Calling for an insurance to just drop debt and cover their asses until ... ??

Let Harrisburg dry up.

Good and patriotic people can and should move where we can use you ... no matter the economy, American patriots always work and provide ... Come to the gas fields out here, f'rinstance.

The EPA helped drive Harrisburg to bankruptcy.

Personally, I'm disposed to being initially skeptical of everything the EPA mandates, especially because of their active and ruthless pushing of the complete scam which is anthropogenic global warming.

Looks like the city of Harrisburg is learning that free stuff is expensive.

has nothing that would make anyone want to visit.............

But then there is the opportunity to watch the mayor get spanked in the corner.

Guilty or not guilty?

After months of contentious debate among city and state officials, Harrisburg, Pa., filed for municipal bankruptcy protection Wednesday, days before the state Senate was scheduled to vote on taking over the struggling capital city's finances. ~~ WSJ
