The U.S. Senate has rejected President Barack Obama's plan to create millions of new jobs through government work programs...But opponents say the president plans to pay for the bill by increasing taxes on the wealthy. They say that would hurt investment and economic growth. They also argue that the president's earlier $825 billion economic stimulus plan was a failure.

Jim Webb of Virginia voted to end the filibuster, but said he would vote AGAINST Hussein's bill.
Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Jon Tester of Montana voted with the Republicans.

There was no way Obama could have gotten 61 votes to end the filibuster and everyone knew it. So this isn’t a surprise to anyone, least of all him. He had Reed hold the vote tonight just to make a point.
