Latest Quinnipiac Poll Continues to Show Virginia Is Top Battleground
Roll Call ^ | October 11, 2011 | Kyle Trygstad

A new Quinnipiac University Polling Institute survey in Virginia confirmed yet again that the state will be a battleground on both the presidential and Senate levels.

The new poll found that former Govs. George Allen (R) and Tim Kaine (D) remained neck and neck in the race for the state’s open Senate seat, while President Barack Obama was statistically tied with Mitt Romney, the frontrunner for the Republican nomination.

Kaine took 45 percent to Allen's 44 percent, matching the 1-point margin the polling institute found in its last two surveys of the race in June and September. The race is expected to be a dead heat through next fall.

Virginia’s demographics continue to change. The growth of the Federal government is causing growth in northern Virginia, with its large number of government workers. Northern Virginia could also be known as Southern Maryland politically.

It’s the DC suburbs versus the real Virginia.

I live in NoVa. iNorthern VA, especially Fairfax and Loudoun went GOP in 2009 and 2010. Gerry Connolly almost lost. I don’t think NoVa will be a safe haven for dems is 2012.

The GOP doesn’t have to win Fairfax in 2012. just not lose by so much. I think Loudoun is more republican now that it was in 2008 and 2006.

Virginia holds elections for state legislature in a few weeks. The results might hold clues as to how the state will go in 2012.

And the Obama administration has been VERY good for DC.

I don’t think Kaine will do well. Taxation is a sore subject now.

LOL, I think Allen will lose, and obummer will lose. Allen is not really liked by the former tobacco farmers, he screwed them pretty bad. Actually cost me about 5000.00 so I will pass on voting for him.

If polling is this close, expect the ‘rats to pull out all the stops including voter registration fraud, voting fraud, union thugs at the polls, an October surprise, etc. They will employ every dirty and illegal trick in their playbook. Expect every effort by their side to steal the election. Expect them to attempt to disenfranchise the military. Be prepared, Virginians.

Some people- like you- prefer Kaine.

I don’t think there are as many as prefer keeping taxes and spending down. In a better economy Kaine would do better.

"The growth of the Federal government is causing growth in northern Virginia, with its large number of government workers. Northern Virginia could also be known as Southern Maryland politically."

We should donate NoVA to DC or Maryland. I'm sick of them offsetting our votes, and they would be politically happier there. I'm beginning to know what it feels like to be a conservative/libertarian type person living in the interior regions of California or PA, and it sucks!

I realize Allen is less than perfect, but how could Kaine even be close? He couldn’t be anymore married to 0bama without being his husband. The ONLY thing that will give that seat to the dems is the fact the election is a presidential year, and all of the FSA(Free Shit Army) members will crawl out of their alleys and housing projects to vote straight democrat while in the process of voting for their messiah.

It will go just like last time with Allen, and this time the GOP presidential candidate, barely hanging on to a narrow lead until late at night when a handful of precincts in dem strongholds will report in with enough numbers to put Kaine and 0bama over the top. Sadly, we’ve seen this movie before.....

Not quite. We have hanging juries in North Virginia just like the rest of the state. You come over here and kill somebody even the Democrats and Socialists are going to fry your little fanny.

You won't find that in Maryland.

Now, about the current campaign ~ for the legislature. We get 5 to 10 calls a day from the Democrat robocall machine. About every other day there's an additional call from a person ~ and whoever answers the phone pushes back and tells them to DROP US FROM YOUR ROBOCALL ~ or else.

Eventually as we get closer to November they will send somebody around to knock on our door.

That poor batarde is liable to be beaten severely!!!!!!

It's the calls. They think they are making friends with the robocalls but they're not!

George Barker is in some serious trouble here ~

No you don't. We don't swing that way. Besides it was your residual, but usually silent, KKK voters in Southside who put in Senator Webb.

This time we got a secret for you though. Kaine is ALSO secretly Jewish and is known to consort with known Mormons and Arab terrorists.

Allen will win in a landslide!

I understand your feelings. However, the $5k will be chump change compared to what it will cost you if the Dems maintain effective control of the US Senate.

By the way, Obamacare is already costing my wife and I over $3k more a year in health insurance premiums. Note, that is per year, not just a one time amount.

I can’t read their crosstabs, but the poll does show a 52 to 26% enthusiasm gap in the R’s favor.

With all the new R Reps like Griffin the SW will be much better for us. Also anger at the tobacco buyout has mostly passed (despite comments above).

I don’t think NOVA and Charlottesville can pull it off this time.

Unlike last time there will be an anti-Obama bote this year too. Iy will be interesting to see the media try to portray it as ‘racist’.

Funny! They mention deep in the article that Cain has tied Romney there, but never mention how he does against Obama.
