SEOUL — Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin took aim Tuesday at the political elite in the United States, Europe and China, as she brought her criticisms of big government and "crony capitalism" to South Korea.
Days after announcing she would not run for president in 2012, Palin said there "will be a woman president of the United States of America, and I look forward to that day", but did not elaborate on why she did not enter the race.
The 2008 vice-presidential candidate told supporters last week she could help the Republican cause more by working to elect others.
In a wide-ranging speech to a forum in Seoul, the conservative commentator accused China of seeking to use its military influence in regional disputes and said she looked forward to the ousting of North Korea's regime.
Palin cited the Arab Spring as proof that new information technology was playing an "enormous role" in spreading cries for freedom.
"Technology means individuals have been empowered in ways they have never been empowered before in our entire history," she told the World Knowledge Forum hosted by Maeil Business Newspaper....

Number three matters precisely because of the tenuous and fragile "peace" between the two Koreas...as witnessed by the fact that SK took measures to immediately distance themselves from her statements.

Upset the status quo? Risky? How things get changed?
Sorry but this is not some mid-level management team trying out some new sales tactics. The status quo is a condition of cold war between two enemies that is always on the verge of going hot.
The risk that her comments engendered is not to her or you or me...it is to the 15 million South Koreans who live within range of NK artillery.
And the change in circumstances would likely costs tens of thousands of lives...mostly civilian.
As I wrote above...no savvy foreign policy person would have made such a provocative statement....and to al-jazeera???!!!
If NK is so trigger happy unstable as you imply, they hardly need a Palin statement to tripwire them over the edge.
SK warned NK that another of their attacks such as the sinking of their naval ship or the shelling of a SK island, then they SK, would retaliate with overwhelming force.
And NK did what? Zilch, nada, nothing, is what they did. For the ones in NK power knew in an all out war, SK would certainly crush them once and for all.
Well, I definitely have mixed feelings and you have to careful on FR because if you express your feelings with a little tongue in cheek, people take it wrong and blast you. There’s humor in here somewhere - like feeling like you’ve been strung along by the prom queen or something, politically speaking. That’s not necessarily what I really think, but it’s how it feels.

I’m sure the “elites” are shaking in their boots because Sarah’s making a speech. You betcha.
WAY more than if she had that shackling “title” of President of the United States.

International press doesn’t matter...someone convince me otherwise. Spouting off against the things she needs to to THIS MSM is where she needs to be:
* Romney
* Obamacare (and Romneycare for that matter)
* Drilling and energy independence, independence from Middle East oil
* Shaving down EPA and overturning their edicts
* tax cuts, capital gains tax cuts, small business start ups
The list goes on that she needs to be covering...and keeping the candidates honest
What a terrible statement she made. She could just as well have spoken about NK as an "evil emire". No sane person would do that.

BTW have you read Dick Cheney's autobiography? Penultimate chapter is about the Bush admin's negotiations with NK. State dept let down the US (and the world) once again.

I will not even hold my nose and pull the lever this time. Palin and I disagree on one thing: she is “Anyone But Obama” I am “Anyone But Romney, Anyone But Palin-less GOP” — Voting for Romney is doing a disservice to conservatism. doing a disservice to conservatism has more long term and far ranging implications to the detriment of this nation than a second Obama term. Obama breathed life into the Tea Party, but the GOP will squash it.
