Herman Cain leads the South Carolina Republican presidential primary with 26%. Cain is followed closely by Mitt Romney at 25%. Rick Perry is third at 15%.
In July, Romney was leading with 25%, followed by Sarah Palin at 16%, Michele Bachmann at 13%, and Herman Cain at 10%.
Among likely primary voters considering themselves to be Republicans, Cain and Romney are tied at 27% each, followed by Perry at 15%.
Among Tea Party supporters, Cain leads with 35%, followed by Perry at 16% and Romney at 15%.
Among those saying they are not Tea Party supporters or are undecided about the Tea Party, Romney leads with 33%, followed by Cain at 19%, Perry at 14%, and Ron Paul at 10%.

Not true. Newt has jumped in the polls and Bachman lost votes to Perry. Cain looks like Perry 6 weeks ago and Bachman 8 weeks ago. If Perry supporters back Newt he would jump into the top 3.
With all due respect, your tagline is absolutely wrong. Why should Perry be singled out when most illegals live in California, New York, Florida, etc? We do have our share and a lot of them find refuge with families here legitimately. Illegals don’t only come in one Mexican flavor. They are every nationality and they go to college everywhere in the country. The national immigration policy has failed miserably. It has failed so miserably that citizens of our neighbor, Arizona, have faced horrible risks. Our whole country is at risk.....and it is not Perry’s fault. His hands-on experience would be an asset in that arena. No one thinks illegals should benefit from anything. The six hundred or so who have benefited from reduced tuition are the kids of illegals who have already gone through the halls of our education system from everywhere in the country. They don’t just come here to go to college. They’re brought here without a say. They are products of a failed national policy. Still, they have to have graduated from our high schools and lived in Texas for at least three years. What is Mr Cain going to do? Mr Romney? Does anyone think they will govern to the right of Rick Perry?
Herman Cain who truly was until recently a virtual unknown had faith enough in himself to decide to run for President of the United States on his own. There was no Media hype/pressure/build-up about a possible run, there was no urging by members of the Party, no words spoken into his ear by party players, elites, beltway boys or pundits, not even a word of encouragement from the Republican Party of his home state only faith in himself. Now after months of being treated as being a inconsequential candidate the curious sideshow of a conservative black Republican, he is now in the top tier along with people of great party pull, of men with experienced political machines and the dollars to power them. He did that on his own with no help from anyone accept by his own. Now think what a man with faith in himself like that could accomplish if given the chance.

Perry's the ONLY one taking on Romney! All the so called other conservatives in this race are joining the MSM, democrats and the Ron Paul lunatic brigade in attacking Perry and ignoring obama and Romney. I wonder why that is?
i like Cain too...and will happily support either he or Perry in the general. We'll see how things shake out but these vitriolic attacks on Perry are dishonest, dishonorable and counter productive.

Perry has never lost an election just so you know, and guess what? I don't think we need massive overhaul of the tax system. We need jobs. We need government out of our hair. We need a balanced budget amendment. We need to stop spending money.
This is another reason I don't think Cain is serious because this plan is set up to be destroyed, and if Perry can't do it, Mitt will.

Absolutely! Herman Cain will govern to the right of Rick Perry, no question. The only one, out of all the viable candidates, who wouldn't is Romney.

I agree. I think the picture just hasn’t come into focus yet. I would vote for Newt over Cain or the other candidates. I’m supporting Perry because I believe in him. When our candidate is chosen by the will of the people, I’ll support that candidate.
Like it or not, the ticket will be Romney/Cain, IMHO. If Cain comes out strongly against Romney in the debate or vice versa, I’ll be very surprised.
I have been a FairTax supporter for ten years.
Cain agrees with me on 90+% of the conservative positions that I hold dear. The big one that he doesn’t agree with is an issue where *I* break away from the conservative pack.
He is the candidate that is most closely aligned with me. That is why I support Cain.
In addition; I do hope that, with his charisma, he is able to articulate the conservative position better than Bush did. His would be a powerful voice in the national lib vs conservative argument.
I am not following a cult of personality. The reason I became more enthusiastic two weeks ago, is that I finally saw hope that a real conservative actually had a chance in this race. Until then, I’ll admit that I was of the ‘he’s good, but he can’t get elected’ camp.
My husband, on the other hand, was not. He’s been a Cain supporter since 2008. He’s no ‘cult’ follower. He’s a principled man who likes Cain for the same reasons that I do.
Exactly. This is starting to give the impression of 1992 and the Ross Perot phenomenon. And we know how that turned out. Cain is running for potus as a political neophyte. He has no governing record or legislative record to judge him on. Except for his rhetoric, I have no idea what he will do. We are suppose to take his word on everything. I want more substance.
