That system is referred to as “Human Microphone”. It originated in NYC iirc, because NYC requires a permit to use an amplified sound system or a bullhorn in public.

It’s very creepy, and very slow, and very cultish...

Thanks for the explanation although the behavior is still creepy.

Please note that the leader has a functioning bullhorn, can be heard quite well and the crowd isn’t that spread out. One of the crowd actually had a functioning mic, as well.

This childish stuff is about short-circuiting thought processes and forcing the crowd to internalize whatever is said to them via repetition. This is the sort of Neuro Linguistic Programming that is being used in the schools to produce these mindless twits in the first place.

For _this_ their parents and grandparents have paid through the nose since pre-school so the darlings could have an acceptable education aimed at keeping them in the upper middle class. As the parent of a 40-something who has been totally subsumed by this *culture* of nihilism, I can only imagine the gut-punched feeling many of them must be experiencing.

This is how you control forth graders at camp. The nature of the dispute (does letting him speak suggest that one person is better than another?) is a crazy as some of the debates I heard in Berkeley in the 70’s.
