Romney rivals may go after him for flip-flops
Boston Globe ^ | 10/9/11 | Philip Elliot

Mitt Romney faced relentless criticism four years ago for changing his positions on abortion and gay rights and equivocating on other issues, including immigration and gun control. This year, the former Massachusetts governor has largely escaped such attacks as he competes again for the Republican presidential nomination. That might be changing.

Looks like the Conservatives on the stage are figuring out that relentless attacks on Perry are only strengthening Romney. I love Perry's quote: "For some candidates, pro-life is an election-year slogan to follow the prevailing political winds."

Yup, amazing Romney is a pure flip flopper and oversaw his states, first in the nation, version of Obamacare - yet the entire field has been so focused on Perry they’ve let him get away with it almost unscathed.

Perhaps Romney has become such a good debater that he will be able to brush aside such questioning the next time they are all on a stage together, but it would nice to see them at least raise the issues.

As of now Romney seems to be coasting to the nomination without hardly a challenge - and the guy should be more vulnerable than any of the others (real candidates I mean, not Gary Johnson or Ron Paul).

Romney has been allowed to slide because the Media is for Romney.

They want Romney so bad they can taste it. Romney is their best chance to put Obama back in the White House.

Don’t worry: after the Primary’s the Media will be out to get him.

Abortion? Gun control? Gay rights? Oh, come on now. Romney says he’s always been pro-life, pro-family and is a life long hunter:

He also says RomneyCare is a conservative free-market program. It’s just that he loves mandates.

And he says the planet IS warming and it’s up to us to save it. It’s settled science, just like Roe v Wade is settled law and therefore he’s sworn to preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose.

Perry really better come up with a Presidential agenda soon.

His problem with Conservatives is no one knows what he really stands for. He says all the right things but then so did Bush.

Nice sounding words in speeches and platitude are not a Presidential agenda.

Ugh. To hear you say it like that...I cannot believe we’re even having to discuss this guy in the context of a potential Republican nominee. It’s disgusting.

There is only one way I will ever cast a vote for Romney in 2012,
and that is if by November, my only valid choice is between him or Obama.

I’d prefer to hear the candidates going after Obama than wasting their fire on each other. I’m not going to pick my candidate based on who most effectively attacks his fellow Repub, but rather on the one who most effectively takes the wood to the Obamists.

Still, Romney is one of my bottom three. He’s a deal-maker. He doesn’t have any principles, his principle is making the deal. If he manages to make a successful deal then he believes he’s done his job. He doesn’t look at what principles he had to give up to get to the deal, for him the deal itself is the thing. So we will never be able to depend on him to stand for principle. It isn’t in him.

So, for me, the top of the list is Cain, Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich (in no particular order), then Perry, and then the bottom. Romney the shape-shifter, Paul who is Paul, and Huntsman the smarmy.

I think I like Huntsman least of all. Paul would make a good Secretary of Treasury or Interior (or Education; he could help us close that agency down), and Romney would make a good Secretary of Commerce. Huntsman irritates me just looking at him.

Mormonism is a secret society! THee are levels where new revelations are given when a member reaches them. Romney is at the level equal to the 33rd degree (the top) in Freemasonry!

I refuse to play that game. If the GOP cannot field an honest conservative candidate for president, and instead puts up an abortionist, homosexual pandering, global warming advocating, gun-grabbing, big government, mandate-loving socialist healthcare pushing, progressive LIAR, then I’m no longer a Republican.

Not a case of me leaving the Republican party, the Republican party will have left me.

Go TEA party!! Long live the Republic!!

God, life, family and country first!! Progressive Republican NEVER!!

I wouldn’t call pro-life a campaign slogan. I would call pro-life truly the right side to be on!!

Mitt Romney: We do have tough gun control laws in Mass. I support them and will not chip away at them.

I think Perry would be delighted to announce his policies on important issues. Unfortunately, he’s being attacked from all sides and is constantly defending himself. If that defensive stance is ever allowed to change, he’ll get his message out. Frankly, if it doesn’t change...if the Conservatives on the stage don’t redirect their fire from Perry to Romney, we’re going to have the choice of Romney or Obama in a few months.
