The cold is coming -- and they know it.
As the Occupy Wall Street protesters head into their fourth week, the camp is preparing to dig in for the long haul. Saturday, thoughts were turning to basic human needs and ways to plan and strategize for the challenges ahead.
At Saturday's 9 a.m. coordination meeting, representatives on the numerous task forces dealt with the need for more donations of sleeping bags, ground pads and shoes. Right now there's an oversupply of socks, T-shirts and thermal blankets.
"The cold is definitely a concern for all of us," Olivia Nole-Malpezzi, 18, of Rochester said later. "We definitely need to prepare for the winter, mentally and physically. Donations are everything to us."
The challenges aren't deterring one Long Island protester.
"It's important," said Roy Sharkey, 51, of St. James. "I want this to be effective and result in some kind of change. I want to make a statement that's loud and clear and right, for my children," said the father of two, a carpenter and part-time musician now on disability.
Also discussed at the coordination meeting were compost, recycling, funding, and expanding the kitchen area to accommodate food donations.

Needless to say, these types contribute LITTLE to the game and are NOT the candidates for the hall of fame.
These Wall Street occupiers are using that same approach and that will get them NOTHING and NOWHERE.
Just another bunch of young pups about to learn that you CAN'T piss on the carpet while enjoying the fruits of living in the house.
Some will LEARN... some won't.
Two words...
...water cannons.
Let’s see - leeches that blame their loser lives on everyone else think that they will survive winter in the northeast... At the very least they might crawl away with an appreciation for what they do have.
Honestly, I want the lessons they learn to be even more severe.
I hope they *don't* know. The "frost calendar" for NYC runs from late October through mid-April. Almost half the year.
Company that owns Zuccotti "Protester" Park Just got 168 Million Loan Guarantee from Obama DOE!
According to AccuWeather, it will 49 with rain on 10/19.
Oh but Beck is just a nutcase, right?
They are greedy, aren’t they?
Really needy people are living in the streets without political agendas and these left wing union, code pink and who ever else is involved, want you to donate to support their politics.
The owners of the park may be on the Obama dole but I would imagine that surrounding businesses (the ones without public bathrooms) must be suffering somewhat from the activity in the park. Were I a neighbor I would sue and ask for an injunction against the public health hazard.
The combination of winter and horrible sanitation will put an end to the party.
Camping out with highs around 85 and lows around 65 can be fun. But when the even the highs are below freezing and snow covers everything they will run for home.
Bad sanitation will soon cause disease to spread and that will take its toll also. In every war until WWII the U.S. lost more soldiers to disease than to combat. Bad sanitation is a killer.
They’re PAYING the protesters for “Occupy”. Here’s a link - the ad runs on Craig’s List....
