No justice from Justice: Appoint A Special Prosecutor For Fast & Furious
New York Post ^ | 10/09/11 | Editorial

Posted on 10/09/2011 7:41:20 AM PDT by AtlasStalled

Two things to know about Attorney General Eric Holder: He lied to the American people -- under oath, before Congress -- and thus is unfit to investigate allegations of criminal negligence in the Justice Department.

This is why House Republicans have called for a special prosecutor to investigate Holder for apparent perjury regarding his testimony on the administration’s “Fast and Furious” gun sting -- during which the US armed Mexican drug cartels with 2,500 high-powered, military-style weapons.

* * *

Meanwhile, Justice officials have been fighting like rabid animals to cover up the operation since the moment the story broke -- further underscoring the need for a special prosecutor.

What are the rules for the appointment of a special prosecutor ?
Can either the House or Senate do this without WH approval ?

Good questions, I’ve been wondering that myself. Can Zippy just ignore the whole thing (since there are no good options for him)?

I thought I read that Mr. Issa had requested a special prosecutor—but I haven’t heard anything about it lately......

Not sure what the point of calling for a special prosecutor when he would likely be appointed by holder himself.

Fast and Furious weapons found in Mexico cartel enforcer's home

This arsenal uncovered by police in Ciudad Juarez, in April turned out to include weapons from the ATF’s ill-fated Fast and Furious operation. (La Policiaca) link

Great article by the New York Post. But there is one HUGE thing it that I must disagree with:

"The point of the exercise was to track the weapons and snare cartel leaders -- but the agency lost track of nearly all the guns."

The point was NOT to track. There was no budget at all to track the guns.

Only in ONE case was a weapon tracked --that was when a desperate ATF agent went off the script and using his OWN MONEY, bought a tracker from a Radio Shack and inserted it into a weapon ON HIS OWN INITIATIVE.

The point was to KILL PEOPLE --to generate shocking headlines in order to ban all, "assault weapons".

THAT was the point.

WHAT PLANS does Obama have that would make his people afraid of LAW ABIDING PEOPLE with semi-auto rifles? What are those plans?

Because it seems more and more like ANYTHING is possible with this guy. Do you realize how LITTLE we really know about him?

No, it was worse. It was to arm an enemy while justifying the UN Small Arms Treaty with which to annul the Second Amendment.

Question for any lawyer on the thread.

Can the President pardon Holder for any crimes that he has not as of yet been charged with, meaning, a pardon for any and all charges that may be leveled against Holder in the future as related to Fast and Furious?

If Holder steps down he will be replaced with an equally corrupt AG thus it would be business as usual at the Justice Department. If Holder remains the stink of corruption will be daily fare until Obama’s Defeat. Actually Obama will probably fire him if he does not step down.

If he is prosecuted after the next election he would probably turn States Evidence against Obama.

Lawyer type Freepers please comment.

ps.
I miss the less than honorable “Congressman Billy Bob”
He would have had a great running commentary about the legal issues of this case. For those that are not familiar, he was a Constitutional Scholar and Lawyer that has practiced in the Supreme Court at times. We lost him a few years ago. He was not a Congressman but used that handle in his posts. He was very brilliant. He is missed.

Which office of the Federal Government appoints a special prosecutor? Then we have the answer. We will never get one until 2013.

The Bright side. If we can get a special prosecutor for the Eric Holder mess we could get all of the misfits in the White House that thought F&F up.
