Notice that the $300 billion dollar per year marked is in the US. If the US citizens quit using drugs, the problem would go away. What is there about the US that drives people to drug use?

They will never quit using drugs. Too many people prefer getting high vs being uncompromisable. I don’t use drugs and despise those who do.

The solution however, and I hate to say it is to legalize them, but regulate them to ensure quality and safety.

I honestly don’t know. Never seen the appeal myself, but then again I had to work hard all my life.
Seems to me that most drug users get things handed to them on a plate - not much personal satisfaction in that!

“If the US citizens quit using drugs, the problem would go away. What is there about the US that drives people to drug use?”

Mostly the facts that the “if it feels good do it” and “its nobody’s business as long as its just me” crowds condone it, the hedonists of Hollywood actively promote it as harmless, and it serves the interests of trial lawyers to fill the court dockets and their pockets with the public money from being paid defenders of that which is indefensible, so they support it too.

All the hard to do stuff has been done. living is easy, with more leasure time than many know what to do with, not having the drive in the first place to ---->do something<----.

Drugs make things so much worse. I don’t know why people don’t think about that before they start using.

The estimated number of drug addicts in the US is 7 million or 2% of the population. Mexico's addicts number 4.5 million or 3% of their population.

If our drug addicts were to suddenly go away, they'd be missed by their suppliers but Mexican addicts would still provide a nice income.

In fact, last month Attorney General Marisela Morales called for strengthening the strategy against “narcomenudeo”, or local drug dealing for domestic consumption, which she admitted is the real engine driving violence in the country, and was the motive for the murder of the 35 people in Veracruz.

That $300 billion dollars sounds bogus to me. Even taking into account the probability that US addict number of 7 million does not include marijuanna users.

Guilt. Just another psyop weapon.
