FLASHBACK: Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist endorses Rick Perry for Texas governor

"I had to come 1,200 miles to find a governor who believes in a simple principle called the rule of law," Gilchrist said at the Crescent Hotel. "I'm here to encourage all you Texans to stand your ground and get out there and vote for this governor."

Gilchrist later added that "Perry has a clear record of decisive action to secure our borders, stop illegal drug and human trafficking trade and is very clearly the right choice for voters in Texas to fight illegal immigration."

In accepting the endorsement, Perry blasted the federal government's effort to secure that nation's borders.

"Washington's record on border security has been one of indifference, of neglect and failure," Perry said. "That's why Texas has been stepping up with resources to fill the gap left by Washington."

Perry said the state, over the last two legislative sessions, has pumped in over $225 million for border security.

"We're not going to rest in Texas until that border is completely secure," Perry said.

Gilchrist had enough of the legal mumbo jumbo from the Fed and stepped up to the plate as a private citizen.
He even got an aerial drone funded.

Then the legal challenges started coming in.
The minutemen were inundated with legal challenges from the Feds as well as Gov Napptyano.

Rick Perry has stepped it up and sued the Feds back.
Perry and Gilchrist are very similar as far as ideas on the border and anger about the Fed.
Perry just has more money to defend his position.

BTW, in response to the folks that rip on Perry for saying Arizona’s new immigration law is not the right fit for Texas.

Rick Perry passed HB 12 on 5/10/11. It addresses the legal issues of Jan Brewers law which is under suit from the Feds and has the same impact while cutting of further legal dispute at the state level.

If Perry's record is protecting the border and illegal immigration has exploded under his watch, then at best, he's proven ineffective in dealing with the problem.

While it is true the Federal Government is responsible for border security, a Governor isn't completely powerless, as Governor Brewer proved in Arizona. Yet, Perry opposed such a law for Texas with (IMO) a very weak rationale.

Look, Perry and his supporters are going to have a very difficult time convincing most that he's tough on illegal immigration. His record and results simply don't support his current (campaign) stance. Why not leave the issue alone and attempt to accentuate any positives in his record instead?

True, If the Feds refuse to do their jobs, it ends up costing the State Taxpayers to defend the border. Perry sent ole Jan the Man a bill for the money Texas has spent doing the DHS job in Texas. Maybe that is why we are hearing about the Feds doing some drug bust (in Major TV Markets ofcourse). funny they herald a capture of Human Smuggling house. Until you read the story. One of the illegals being held for ransom managed to escape and Call the Sheriff. It was broke up alright but not by the Feds.
We’ll probably see plenty of high profile busts this next year, as cover for Jan,Holder and BHO.

That is not the way Perry rolls. That's what the OTHER candidates do.

Perry is the ONLY candidate I see fighting these aholes.
He is doing it on States rights, he is doing it on the border issue and he is doing it to the EPA.

And he has been doing it for long before his name was uttered as presidential candidate.

According to some survey I heard back in the 80’s by the 3rd generation the descendants of “wetbacks” no longer speak Spanish.
One exception I can think of is a second generation that got a PHD in education and was the Superintendent of Schools for San Antonio for many years.

Point being. Anybody that bitches about Spanish is some Yankee that showed with a U-Haul.

His record is one of success. If you think that Gilchrist doesn’t know anything about border security and who is doing their job and who isn’t then that is YOUR problem. You are entitled to your opinion but not to your own facts.

Fact is Texas is at War and apparently only the Fed and Perry haters don’t give a Rats behind.

It's a losing battle if that's the way he and his campaign choose to go, as evidenced by the trends in his polling the last few weeks.

If Governor Perry is for protecting the borders then his predecessor (George W. Bush) must have been a champion in protecting the borders.

Then a bunch tried to use the Naggarhead race card on Perry.

You can post as many articles as Jim thompson will allow, but you can not defeat the fact that Perry will institute AMNESTY. He has said it. He believes it. How the holy guacamole do you think that I will believe in a flip-flop that just washed up on a Maine shore? Sounds like another braggart, you can take this boy’s poster and put it up over your bed, but as far as prez no comprende englais.

He NEVER said any such thing, he fought to elminate sancturary cities, he said he will NOT institute amnesty, he has always been and still is strong on border security. You are making things up, to be diplomatic about it.
