An unnamed computer virus is compromising the security of U.S. Reaper and Predator drones as they fly missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, and Pakistan.
Wired reports the virus was found about two weeks ago and hasn't kept the drone pilots at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada from conducting missions.
There haven't been any reports of classified data breaches, but the virus has resisted the military's best efforts to remove it.

One big vulnerability of relying on unmanned platforms: all it takes is a particularly nasty virus, and your air force is down. Or worse yet, your air force has suddenly become the enemy’s air force.

First I’d heard that they named a base after Creech. It’s in Nevada, so they won’t have to paint everything “Creech Brown,” because it already is.

China?
Palestinian Sympathizer. Like the Ft. Worth shooter. Two weeks ago we poop on the Palistinian's bid for statehood. Now this takes out our ability to strike at the islamists. If China had this kind of capability they wouldn't want us to know they had it.

Nah, I think the drones were hit by the computer virus when the Commander-in-Chief was surfing for gay porn.

The drones have become self aware. We have 20 minutes.

I'm no Internet security guru, but my guess is that the attack came from within the military network. When you think of incidents like the Ft. Hood shootings and similar events, all it would take is one deranged soldier to wreck havoc on the system.

Probably Obama has installed a few Muslim Czars in the drone program.
Seriously, too bad, because this seems to be one of the few elements in our defense forces that is still actively interested in damaging the enemy.

One interesting aspect of this is that they are still using the software anyway.

Whats the matter with the military?Don’t they believe in using anti-virus programs? crying out loud. The NSA has enough programmers on it’s staff they should have the best anti-Virus software around.

There are many many civilian contractors involved with these programs. Some of those contractors are Chinese.
They had a high level engineer on the B2 program who was feeding info back to China.

They are required to have anti-virus. I doubt this is the normal malware found cruising the internet.

The real source of this story is Wired Magazine. There was a thread linking to Wired. It got pulled because we're not supposed to use Wired stories, so I looked for a non-Wired story.
