(CNN) -- ESPN says it has severed its relationship with singer Hank Williams Jr.
"We have decided to part ways with Hank Williams Jr. We appreciate his contributions over the past years," the network said in a statement released Thursday. The success of 'Monday Night Football' has always been about the games and that will continue."
Williams, the 62-year-old son of the legendary country singer Hank Williams and a widely popular entertainer himself, compared President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler, a remark that prompted controversy and resulted in "Monday Night Football" pulling his popular musical introduction from this week's game.

This sucks. I hope Hank Williams now really lets us know what he thinks. Maybe a song about Obama/Hitler would be nice, with a dig at ESPN?
I’ll bet Williams feels like an idiot for apologizing now.
Bless him for speaking up
I like Hank, and I like what he said while on TV with the faux three stooges .
What I do not understand is why do so many of these people make admirable and bold statements and then apologize?????
Is there a trend here?
Are they being systematically threatened somehow? Do they all lack the courage of their convictions? If so, are they too disappointed and surprised (at themselves).
Smell something fishy in all of this, folks?????
In any case, Hank Williams Jr... another American folk hero!

Hank didn’t really compare Obama to Hitler, it was simply portrayed that way by the media. He was talking about Obama and Boehner getting together to play golf and said (I’m paraphrasing), “That’s like Hitler and Netanyahu getting together to play golf. They’re enemies, they have nothing in common”. He was simply stating the silliness of the situation.
With that said, if what he said has to be explained or clarified, he’s already lost the argument.

No sympathy for Hank Williams. He was a public front for a large organization, with lots of customers who are Democrats. While I realize ESPN is run by liberals, in this case, they did what should have been done, if you look at it objectively.
If I had a company that sold a product to a wide group of people, and a company front man did something to irritate 1/2 of my customer base, that front man would be gone, period.
Not to mention that it’s wrong to compare the President to Hitler, even if it is Obama.
I really tired of conservatives getting fired, attacked and ridiculed when we speak our minds. The left on the other hand can say anything and do anything and the media looks the other way.
I normally don’t do this but I will make it a point to NEVER turn on Monday night football again.
They should get a gay guy in a dress to do a show tune for the intro - you know, something with values that won’t offend anyone.
All the most reason to boycott the NFL and its enablers. Mine began after the hypocrisy of the Rush Snub, and quite frankly, I havent missed it at all. And that includes the “Super Bowls” Let liberals support the prima donnas and overpriced tickets and merchandise and palatial stadiums. My Sundays are alot more enjoyable now doing other things than watching over-commercialized thug football.
And I certainly don’t waste my Monday evenings now either. Whatever liberals touch, rest assured they will screw it up.
Gotta get rid of the white guys so the ‘minorities’ can have a job, remember...
Mike
No doubt Kanye West and Lady Ga Ga are hard at work on the new intro music....
‘Not to mention that its wrong to compare the President to Hitler, even if it is Obama’.——
He didn’t compare Obama to Hitler.
But you did a good job of promoting that lie.
And I bet you have lots of posts here, when the Democrats did compare Bush to Hitler, eh? You want to provide the links?
Is that you Anderson Cooper?
Oh wait, no it’s James Carville isn’t it?
ESPN’s loss.
After many years of being a Monday Night Football fan I am done with it.
Hank’s remarks weren’t misunderstood; they have been intentionally misrepresented. It is clear he was making a comparison - not referring to anyone as a Nazi.
This is just more political correctness run amok.
Leftists jumped on the opportunity to turn a cumbersome analogy into a racial attack.
“Never let a crisis go to waste”
(even if you have to manufacture one)
Why?
If 0bama's policies are similar to Hitlers, why not?
The liberals compared Bush to Hitler all the time. IMHO they had no basis for it.
If "the most busted news organization" is lying again, folks, we gotta convince Journalism to put on a clean pair of underwear and get rid of the pair with all those skid marks masquerading as journalists.
It's what liberals do.
I recall how the liberals screamed that conservative criticism of JFK caused Oswald to assassinate the President.
Some media rushed to rid themselves of conservatives. The most notable victim was Joe Pyne who had s few hundred stations nationwide.
Though I knew of Pyne only by his short-lived TV show at a later date.
The "fairness doctrine" dark age followed immediately.
