Amanda was lucky.

I'm guessing her family had vast resources to fight her case, hire Italian lawyers, make numerous trips to Italy, bribe the necessary officials, etc.

I thought that this was an appeal and not the trial which took place a couple of years ago.
Secondly, we have our own problems with Nifong type prosecutors, crooked cops and judges and stupid jurors.

>>I can readily understand why some parents believe that study abroad enhances their offspring’s education<<

OMG, why?

So they can study to become socialists or elitists? We need to stop idolizing the Europeans. They are in FAR worse shape than we are.

....but no consideration in given to Americans visiting foreign nations...

Most Americans visiting foreign countries are not present when their roommate is slaughtered.

This woman knew exactly what happened and by her lies through her expensive attorneys knew full well the extent of her participation.

Foxy Knoxy got away with murder and even though the sentence would have been 26 years she'll live many more years than that with her conscience full of the horror she either participated in or knowingly abetted.

with due respect, Amanda Knox was not a child when she went to Italy. she was 20 years old. that's not a child. She should have known

I disagree with the theme of this article -- for instance if you want to study archaeology or paintings the best place IS Italy. Amanda Knox was learning Italian and the best way to learn a foreign language is to live in that country

Some additional parental advise: Do not smoke dope and fornicate in the vicinity of your room mate being raped and throat slit! -— in the USA or any other country

I've often reflected on my days in the Navy when I was just about her age - pulling into Italy, Spain, France, Egypt and other countries in the Med. It was party city for us sailors, looking for the best bars and jet-set parties, and girls, thinking little of the history and culture all around us. While visiting the Pyramids a tour bus full of German girls pulled up, from then on it was all about the girls. For every picture we took of the pyramids, I think we took 10 pictures of us posing with the girls.

I wish I had those years back. Felt like I wasted so much of my young life on things that were not important.

I remember travelling in Third World Countries all over the globe. It was typical to find Westerners in their 20s, maybe 30s, usually American and usually male, in blue jeans or bermuda shorts, riding atop a bus or hanging onto its side among all the natives in very remote locations. I wondered then if it would always be so.

Once in India--it was almost nighttime--I told the taxi driver to take me to the airport. He took me instead to an abandoned shopping center. I got out. Immediately seedy looking men surrounded me. I said to the taxi driver: "This is not the airport." He replied: "You said to take you to a travel agency. This is where it is." I demanded: "You take me to the airport! Right now!" and got back in the taxi. He did. I remember wondering: will it always be so?

In Africa, I signed up for a tour with my wife and small son. When the tour guide appeared at our hotel, we were the only people going on the tour, and the guide was in a crummy-looking automobile. I had to make a quick decision. I appraised the guide. I decided to go. He took us to many remote locations. At times I was uneasy, but it all turned out well. He was a very fine man. The tour was interesting. At the end of the day, he took us safely back to our hotel. I wouldn't do that today.

Americans lived in a golden age. They were safe all over the world. Europeans loved us. People all over the world respected us.

It's not so today.

It was American prosperity, idealism, and power that people respected and envied. America was the promise that they all wanted to emulate.

When America lost its way--and succumbed to decadence, it lost the respect of the people of the world and its self-respect also.

What does American decadence have to offer? Nothing.

What does the American Dream have to offer? Liberty, justice, and prosperity for all Americans and for all the people of the world.

If Americans embrace--once again--the American Dream, America will soar once again into ascendancy--a shining expample to all the people of the world.

If Americans continue down the path of decadence--which is the Left--whose Political Machine is the Democrat Party--and whose Propaganda Machine is the MSM--America has nothing to offer and will receive--and deserve--the contempt of history and all the world.

I don’t know whether the Italian justice system is more corrupt than its American counterpart, or if the accused has fewer rights there than here. No doubt there is prejudice against Americans in Italy for political reasons. However, Amanda Knox was running with a lowlife crowd, the type of people that can be found as readily in the state of Washington as in Italy. You sleep with dogs; you wake up with fleas.

Don’t send your kids to a foreign country unless they intend to behave themselves. That “but I’m an American” sass does not work anymore.

George Washington:

“Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalship, interest, humor or caprice?”

“Nothing is more essential, than that permanent, inveterate antipathies against particular Nations, and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded...The Nation, which indulges towards another an habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest.”

Good advice for traveling anywhere, even within the country.

Know the land. Know the customs. Know the neighborhoods. Be respectful. Be careful. Don't make an ass of yourself.

...four years of waiting for a trial and a chance to tell her side of the story!

Her side of the story??? Uh, the author probably means "tell her sides of the story", plural. Innocent people don’t make up a string of alibis that fall apart the minute the phone records are examined.

“I was at my boyfriends, sleeping, phones off”.
“No wait, we rented movies online."
“What? My boyfriend said something different and our computer records show that didn't happen?”
“Ok, then I was there when the bar owner did it, covering my ears for an eternity as she was murdered.”
“What??, 100 people were with him ALL night?"
"Ohh, guess I better do some cartwheels."

Then there's her own 'myspace' post, bragging about screwing a stranger on a train. SHE told the cops she screwed seven guys since she got to Italy. Then you could ask her SURVIVING roomates what they think. They were disgusted by the nonstop man parade to her bedroom her leaving her vibrator out, right next to their toothbrushes. Ever notice how the other two roomates don't seem to be defending Amanda? They got her number, thats why.

According to the first flatmate, Amanda phoned, and the 12:08 conversation went someting like this:

Amanda: "Hi this ia Amanda, just arrived home, the front door is open, there's blood everywhere, I took a shower and got Raff. Meredith doesn't answer her phone, we tried to get into her room, but it's locked. Do you think something might be wrong?"

Filomena: "The flat was open, blood everywhere.. and you took a shower?" According to Knox herself,, she had hung out with the “real killer”. Amanda was pressuring Meredith to have sex with him. They made a move, it went bad, and Meredith ended up dead. The fact that the guy from Ivory Coast made a deal to avoid trial (while admitting nothing of what he did) does not in any way prove Amanda wasn’t involved up to her eyeballs.

Here's a good summary of the top ten Amanda Knox lies, posted by freeper rimorel:

Top Ten Amanda Knox Lies

Anyway, I know there are plenty of freepers here who say, "Sure, Amanda Knox is a sociopathic liar and a skank, but that doesn't make her a killer!" Well that may be so, but I have no doubt she was somehow up to her eyeballs in the murder, even if she wasn't the one who plunged the knife 40 times.

All that's left to see now is if Amanda Knox has the decency and shame to try to fade away into anonymity. ...Or will make endless promotional appearances on TV ("family lawyer" by her side) for the next year, followed by a book and a movie?

Meanwhile, another family has lost their daughter forever.

Thanks to freepers DesertRhino and Oztrich Boy for much of the above info.
