We are ready to die to stop Japanese whaling: Sea Shepherd

The Sea Shepherd has become increasingly successful in recent years in disrupting the Japanese whaling, last summer forcing Japan's whaling fleet to head home early, and led Japanese whalers to obtain only 17 percent of their whaling quota.

Japanese government on Tuesday announced the research whaling program will go ahead later in December, and there are reports that an extra 27 million U.S. dollars worth of security will be added to the whaling fleet.

Since they don't seize the Japanese ships, don't steal anything from them, don't harm anyone, are they actually pirates?

I am beginning to doubt that you are serious. Is this how you should sound and act as a conservative?

They fearless leader boarded one of the ships and tried to kidnap the captain.

They endanger hundreds of lives.

I doubt you are rational or a freedom loving person.

These Japanese fisherman are whalers and you are talking about shark fin soup. Get your facts straight before you try any community organizing.

“and they do it well.”

If that was true the Japanese wouldn’t be there. Those hippies are a danger to their own safety and violate international law by trying to disable vessels at sea.

The Minke whales the Japs harvest are not rare. That said, one wonders just how many are needed for scientific study. Two or three? A few dozen maybe?

Meanwhile, the the self-appointed "sea shepherds" are in fact guilty of high seas piracy. They have no charter, no commission, no actual authority to try to enforce anything.

They have no real "law" to enforce in the first place.

The sea shepherds (lower case deliberate) are extra-judicial eco-moralists, whom have always been destructive, violent extremists. Eco-terrorists, if you will.

It is a credit to much of the rest of humanity, that no one has blown Paul Watson's head off. Yet.

I have no idea why there is so much hostility against the Sea Shepherds....................

Because they are hardline Leftists who engage in criminal acts.

I don't like "hippies" either but I don't see any conservative volunteers.. We should support the defense of scarce and intelligent creatures.

Support it through the proper channels; the U.N., world courts, etc., not by enabling pirate scum. I am not in favor of whaling, but I am even less in favor of the Sea Shepherd types.

Our diet should be limited to TOFU and water, that way no animals are hurt.

But eating TOFU (sounds like something that smells bad, harvested from between the toes of an unwashed hippie!) deprives a potential Soybean plant of life by processing its seed! And drinking the water deprives some other desrving creature of using it until we have processed and recycled it!

...the Japanese are flouting international law to hunt whales.

So, I assume that when "International Law" declares that we all must be disarmed, you will ungrudgingly comply?

1. The Japanese bought off "the proper channels" - they are industriously denuding the oceans of everything that swims, walks, crawls or flies to make it into Japanese poop. Those are our oceans too...

2. Don't be ridiculous; international regulations can't contravene our own Constitution or intrdue into our personal rights as defined by that Constitution.

I reiterate: the oceans belong to all of us and our descendants - not just the nations who overfish/violate treaties to get yet more, such as the Japanese are doing with cetacians.

I'm surprised at you - aren't these the same silly buggers who tried to take over part of the world and cost us hundreds of thousands of our young men to finally pound back into their borders?

We should support the defense of scarce and intelligent creatures.

Over 99% of all species that have ever inhabited this planet are extinct....who cries for them?
