New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's decision not to run for president is predictable and offers the possibility of changing the dynamic of the Republican primary election. With Florida, South Carolina, Nevada and New Hampshire all moving up the dates of their primaries and caucuses, it simply became impossible and impractical to raise the money and organize campaigns in those states in the less than 100 days that remain.
In the long term, the renewed speculation about Gov. Christie's candidacy can only raise his profile nationally as well as his stature in New Jersey where poll numbers have been steadily climbing in recent week. but the big news and the big story -- which has yet to be reported -- is what this announcement Tuesday means for the remaining nine candidates competing for the nomination.
And the big winner today is Herman Cain. Cain is the winner because he's the only candidate climbing in the in polls. In the Fox News poll released last week and the Washington Post poll released Monday, Cain is surging, more than doubling his prior level of support up to 16 or 17 percent.
Rick Perry has seen his support plummet. and Perry is now in an effective statistical tie with Cain for second place.
The front runner, Mitt Romney is at about 25 %, has been at 25% and shows no signs of being able to grow beyond twenty-five percent.
In plain English, he's stuck.
Another way to put it is that 3 in 4 Republican voters are not considering voting for a man who ran last time and has been the most visible and active and aggressive of the candidates competing now for the nomination.

It is Cain’s to lose now, and I hope he doesn’t.
But with the primaries moved up, who is going to drop out? Everyone will stay in and go for a "hail mary" until April 1.
That still puts Romney in front.
I like Cain and find him to be a savy candidate. However, we are on a fixed income and I did the math..under his 999 plan our personal income taxes will go UP over 30 dollars a month and toss that in with the 9% national tax on everything we purchase...(gas included?)along with the military cola’s frozen, soc sec hits and I am curious as to his take on that? prescriptions for military retirees also went up the first of Oct. We do pay medicare A and B too.
Sarah will be in mid- to late- next week or the following week at the latest, and then we will see things change. She will not announce before October 11. And no, I haven’t been tipping the brew this early this morning.
Can you believe how Liberals will wif out if the Republicans nominate a Conservative Black Man? They will be jumping out of windows.
Did you include the payroll tax (SS etc..) tax in your calculation? Under Cain’s plan that is included in the 9% flat tax.
If you are self employed you pay 15.3% off the top in payroll taxes.
If you work for someone it is 7.65% (your employer also pays 7.65% for you, bringing it ot 15.3%).
The difference between 7.65% and 9% is only 1.35%. Are you sure you only paid 1.35% in federal income taxes last year?
I expect the second tier candidates to run out of cash long before April 1. And when the handwriting is on the wall—for ex, when Bachmann bombs in Iowa—we will see drop outs.
We’re in the same predicament, retirees living on a pension check. 9-9-9 would cost us far more in taxes. It needs tweaking, at minimum.
But I am still not sure that Congress will ever let go of the mortgage, medical, and state tax deductions. All are way too popular.
It’s October. Palin has not announced she is running and I must therefore work on the assumption that she will not run.
I am now supporting Cain. He is doing better than I expected at this point, and as he gets more attention, I suspect the increase in name recognition will add to his poll numbers.
When Santorum and Bachmann drop out (right after Iowa is my guess), their support will go to Cain. Gingrich and Huntsman’s support will likely go to Romney, and Perry will pick up Johnson’s supporters. Paul will stay to the end.
New Hampshire will be an interesting run. It’s assumed that Romney will win there, in fact, it’s his firewall.
If Cain can survive past New Hampshire, January looks like his chance to make a serious move. South Carolina and Florida are right in his neighborhood and he should be at his best down there.
But people already retired on SS don’t pay in those SS payroll taxes and they pay no income tax on SS.
But with Cain’s plan they would have to pay 9% tax on their SS and pay 9% extra sales tax on everything they buy.
It has zero chance of ever passing, zero.
No, the big winner is Obama....
The fat guy has sung. The GOP primary opera is over. There are no curtain calls for anyone. Bring back the smoke filled rooms.

Liberal argument. Everyone pays the same percentage. It’s completely fair from top to bottom.
You don’t want to “pay your fair share”?
ditto.
