Job growth in the private sector continued at a modest pace in September, led by the service-producing sector and small businesses, according to a report released Wednesday.
Automatic Data Processing ADP said payrolls increased 91,000 in September, compared with 89,000 in August, which marked a slight downward revision from the initial August print of 91,000. Economists had anticipated a gain of around 75,000 for September.

A hint at what the jobs report might be Friday.

As leading indicators, it’s still a bit early for a rally, based on projections of a GOP landslide.
I’d expect a strong rally starting sometime early spring.
More hiring, and stronger equities.

ADP is NEVER right. Never. It is almost always off by a good amount versus the Government’s jobs report.

Goodness you are an optimist.

I thought Sept. had the largest number of layoffs in a year. Hard to keep up.

A hint at what the jobs report might be Friday. This means that all the Christmas season hiring is done, regardless of what the jobs report says.

Kind of OT, but if the Private Sector is UP 91,000 are 50,000 of those ‘new’ jobs due to the 50,000 Public Sector (military) that we just lost?
I find it heard to believe that all 50K came home and found jobs within days...
Is anyone watching our military might being slashed ala Clinton? *SHUDDER*

Most companies already decided for Christmas. Best Buy announced 45,000 hiring instead of 98,000 from last year for temp jobs.

You know, looking at the charts I’m starting to think along your lines. Too early to tell, but I thought this market was going into the tank for good, and not maybe not.

"... Automatic Data Processing ADP said payrolls increased 91,000 in September, compared with 89,000 in August, which marked a slight downward revision from the initial August print of 91,000. ...
And normal average population growth in September was 150,000 plus 125,000 new legal workers were brought into the country.
Ignoring questions about the +3,000 jobs such as are they full time, what do they pay, that makes payroll jobs at a net -272,000.
I'm thrilled! /sarc

ignore post #13; it ran away from me before I could edit the numbers. it should read:
"... Automatic Data Processing ADP said payrolls increased 91,000 in September, compared with 89,000 in August, which marked a slight downward revision from the initial August print of 91,000. ...
And normal average population growth in September was 150,000 plus 125,000 new legal workers were brought into the country for a total of 275,000 new workers.
Ignoring questions about the +91,000 jobs such as are they full time, what do they pay, that makes payroll jobs at a net -184,000.
