Howard Dean: Tea Party 'Not Playing With Full Deck' [Must-See Dean Photo]
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/05/2011 5:14:04 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Bulletin from the Bureau of Pot-Meet-Kettle: Howard Dean has declared that Tea Party Americans "are not playing with a full deck." This not merely from the man who made The Scream famous, but who in the very same segment today had a manic tongue-sticking-out moment [see screen grab] that might have scared pets and small children.

Dean also managed to get into a spirited fight with Michael Steele over Obama's 2012 prospects. Dean claims to see an Obama transformed, a candidate "on fire" who is on course to win. Steele soberly pointed to the 9.1% unemployment rate. View the video here.

Actually, Dean's analysis of the situation is spot-on. Romney could very well win the nomination. And if he does, the Tea Party could indeed go off the rails and hand Obama re-election.

What Dean means by "not playing with a full deck", it seems to me, is that the Tea Party has adopted an all-or-nothing mindset. It is on display here on FR every day.

Just think about what all or nothing means. What are the odds of getting it all? What does that leave?

"When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn't like it.

"Compromise" was a dirty word to them and they wouldn't face the fact that we couldn't get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don't get it all, some said, don't take anything.

"I'd learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: 'I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.'

"If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that's what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it."

FWIW...that’s exactly what will probably happen. In the end...DC gets the candidate they want and need. For DC...Romney/Obama are two sides to the same coin. Either continues to acrue power and resources to the Borg.

From the Christian Science Monitor:

“Howard Dean: tea party is ‘last gasp’ of generation that fears diversity”

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/monitor_breakfast/2011/0105/Howard-Dean-tea-party-is-last-gasp-of-generation-that-fears-diversity

“Former Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean characterizes the tea party as ‘almost entirely over 55 and white.’ He says tea partyers are driven by the economy but also discomfort about the nation’s demographic changes. “

My question is what has Howard Dean been smoking? Answer: Terminal Ignorance.

While there is slight differences between Obama and Romney.. Not enough of one to get me to vote for him.

I’ll work hard for those down the ticket, but I’ll have to be in a really good mood to vote for Romney.

Ya, ya, ya a vote for anyone but the guy at the top with an R is a vote for Zero.. And here I thought it was a vote for the person I selected.

Throw it back at him.

There are at least 2 cards conservatives don’t use - the race card and the scare old folks card.

Most Conservatives well remember what we got after the 2004 election. That is why many are taking a hard line stance. I have had a belly full of “ reach across the aisle” crap. Romney is an elitist, big money, big government guy. All of the thousands of democrat bureaucrats and government employees would love to see Romney win.

Mitt will NOT be the nominee. However, the path is wide open for him to try and win it..but he won’t. His core base of support has stayed between 25-30%, and now, over the next 4-6 weeks, he has to show the ability to grow it. He won’t, and when he fails to add to his poll numbers, then the rest of the GOP base will coalesce around a real conservative. It could well be Cain, unless Palin does decide to get it..

Mood has nothing to do with it for me. It’s a very simple choice. I usually don’t love either candidate, and yet picking the better of the two is a simple thing.

After the 2004 election we got a second term of a mediocre/bad president.
