Those words were spoken today by Georgette Mosbacher, RNC Finance Co-Chair and huge GOP fundraiser, after Chris Christies announcement. The we is all the big bundlers, fundraisers, and money folks who have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the field to be set and that quote represents the coalescing around Mitt Romney that is expected to happen rather quickly now. Mosbacher went on to say:
I think tomorrow, well be contacting one another and probably put something together with Romney And I would say that the race is now Romney and Obama. Quite frankly, the enthusiasm wasnt there at the outset. Hes less conservative than a lot of us would like. However, our first and foremost goal is to defeat Obama. And we do believe Romney, in terms of independents, will be a strong candidate. We will coalesce behind him now the time has come to get behind him Tomorrow Ill be on the phone all day. Quite frankly, itll be easier, because now we know who it is who will be our nominee. So we will pull our Rolodexes out and get to work.
Fellow bundler and sideline-sitter John Catsimatidis added, Im going to go with Mitt Romney. I dont think Perry has it in him to do it. Hes a lot better than Sarah Palin, but not a lot lot better.
Ouch.
In related news, Romney also scored another major fundraiser from the Draft Christie movement: Ken Langone. Langone is the founder of Home Depot and is described as a titan in the political money scene. He backed Rudy Giuliani in 2008, helping Giuliani out raise the other candidates. There is evidence that a great deal of the money that had sat on the sidelines so far in this race will now fall into Romneys coffers.
Rick Perry, for his part, got the endorsement of another Draft Christie member: Gary Kirke, a west Iowa investor and casino owner who had also been sitting on the sidelines until this afternoon.
Hey, I’m like Gov. Palin herself—I probably have 24,000 Freeper posts available online!
ROFLOL!
That's the problem with Sarah at this point....people projecting onto Sarah their views because, like Barry in 2008, all we know is "read her book."
Sarah had some corrupt pols thrown in jail and made some oil companies pay up but as for governing the state on everyday issues, she was too limited in her experience to show what she would do. Sarah is mostly big on talk and limited on do.
All I know for sure about Sarah Palin NOW is she has to be one of the most indecisive people in the country or worse, is playing us for fools.
BTW, the last I heard on what she said about immigration, her position was much like Perry's, who she endorsed as TX guv.
I really believe she would gain a lot of experience by being the mayor of a large city in the lower 48.
I hope we can out-do the ‘establishment RINO’ jackasses. Romney??? NO WAY.
Its like they know what is good for us and they have decided. Case closed.
Arrogance.
I would vote for any of the current Presidential contender except Romney and Obama.
My prediction: if Romney is the nominee, Obama wins re-election. I don’t the the GOP establishment realizes what a difference people like you and me make fighting for our candidate on blogs, FB, message boards, and comment sections in newsapers. Romney will not have that. In fact, he will get attacked from both sides. In addition to that, Obama will set up fake advocacy groups and attack Romney from the right. The socially conservative vote will stay home. Romney will be a disaster for the GOP. What should be another landslide election will not be if Romney is the nominee. Senate and House races that would be won by the GOP will be lost if even just 5% if their base stays home because they do not like the GOP Presidential nominee.
At this point, I honestly think our best candidate would be Palin, Cain, or Perry.
Isn’t it odd with Cain supposedly in the lead, she says - We don’t consider Perry a factor and goes on about mitt. No mention about Cain. Gee, I wonder if Cain will feel slighted. Wonder if he would consider that racist - being overlooked - because he’s a bit thin skinned - more used to being affirmed.
But more than likely Cain is part of their little plan, anyway. Maybe that’s why he quit for a month - to get out of the fray and follow where Sarah will bring him crowds to sell his wares. Maybe hoping to get a photo op w/her.
He didn’t quit for a month. And his stop at Liberty has nothing to do with Palin. How do you know she didn’t book after Herman to take advantage of his crowd? So silly, they are completely different events.
His book tour is obviously part of his campaigning. The book is part of the campaign.
It’s unorthodox! It’s revolutionary! It’s unconventional!
Maybe his grandfather is and he thinks it’s something you inherit.
She is neither indecisive nor playing us for fools. There’s no reason to go making things up about her just because she’ll be a better candidate than your guy!
And, over three years she shrank AK’s budget by 15% while adding billions in cash reserves, revamping pensions, forward funding education, etc.. She has a fantastic record.
And, no, she for example supported AZ’s law, which Perry was against. We know full well that Perry is miserable on illegal immigration. I suspect Palin isn’t as strong on it as I would like a candidate to be, but we have no reason to expect that she’s not at least as strong on it as any candidate in the field.
Again, you either purposely misstate or you are just ignorant. She got massive amounts done for AK and had the highest approval ratings that Gallup ever registered for the governor of any state. She did more than anyone else to unmask Obamacare for the fraud that it is and to deliver a massive tea party win in the 2010 elections.
She isn’t naturally one to promote her own successes, but her record of governance is remarkable.
Well when someone posts crap that’s about as diametrically opposed to the principles of the site and who and what it’s founder supports as it gets, is it any surprise that lightning is a possibility?
Wouldn’t be the first time.
It's not just that. I think the people would be astounded to learn how much statutory language is drafted by the executive department, then handed over to Congress. Or, if not that, how much effort the executive puts into molding statutory language that originates outside its direct control.
But my point is that Congress likes it this way, because it can then point to an outsider as "to blame" for the crappy policy; when under the constitution, the duty to craft public policies lies with Congress. "Finger pointing," major league.
All three branches SCOTUS especially, are fond of aggregating power to Washington. When SCOTUS sees a law it "doesn't like" it instructs Congress how to get around the ruling. See Gun Free School Zones Act, struck down, reenacted with a superficial jurisdictional hook, currently in force and upheld by federal courts.
Congress has the power of impeachment; it passes the darned objectionable laws in the first place; and it is more or less off the radar in a presidential election cycle. Too bad.
-- Also, the current jackass in chief has demonstrated how czars and non-elected organizations like the EPA can create their own laws which can profoundly affect the country as a whole. --
Yeah, but Congress created the EPA, and has the power to rein it in.
Give me a Congress full of Jim DeMint's and Thad McCotter's; and I'll let the DEMs put Obama, or Hillary, or Soros himself in the White House.
I don’t think it matters if the choice is Romney, Perry or Gingrich. I would vote for Cain or Palin, all others keep me at home on election day. Frankly, if Obama wins we will be ruined, as when Romney wins. Why when Clinton is in trouble politically, the R’s nominate Dole? When a communist 0bama is going for the White house the R’s nominate McCain?, Now 0 is in trouble, we nominate another whitebread progressive? Answer, it is still 0’s turn. It is not time to for the Republicans to ride to the rescue, of course after the heroine is dead, the barn has burnt to the ground, and the outlaws have flown to a non extraditable state.
Thank you!!
It is to be hoped.
You got that right. Time to push back.
You mention Mosbacher's involvement, but Tower was in the Senate, Bush was CIA, Baker was undersecretary of Commerce, Clements was Sec of Defense.
Later, when Bush became prez, you had Mosbacher at Sec of Commerce, Baker as Sec of State, Tower was nominated as SecDef but couldn't get get confirmed so Bush had to go with Cheney, and Clemensts was serving as Texas Gov.
Point to ponder for all...
It is a FACT that the GOP and Dems have become almost identical and this Moonbat GOP fundraiser shows that clearly.
It is also a FACT that the TEA party types will not vote RINO again, nor for a continuation of the BS that got us here.
It is also a FACT that the gen pub is about sick of ‘business as usual politics.
Ergo why is it that everyone freaks out at the words ‘third party’ when what they want is the very thing the GOP refuses to deliver?
Well since you’re so fired up to demand answers, I’m sure you’ll follow your own advice and answer one or two
Let’s start with these:
1. Do you support former Gov. Palin’s tax hikes on an American industry — oil companies — operating in Alaska
2. Or was Palin wrong to raise taxes on an American industry?
