Ever since Occupy Wall Street protests began mid-September, the hacker collective Anonymous has been posting its support for protestors and threats against those like the New York Police Department, on its YouTube channel. In its most recent post over the weekend, Anonymous threatens to erase the New York Stock Exchange from the Internet.
Anonymous includes instruction on its video for people to "JOIN THE RAID".
When? October 10. Watch the groups video threat a message to the media of a day that will never, ever be forgot:
As PC Magazine reports the threat, it notes that Anonymous does not explain how it will take down NYSE from the Internet. Comments on the video, however, reveal some theories:
[...] some speculated that Anonymous was planning a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack on the public-facing NYSE.com website, similar to DDoS attacks the group has used to take down websites in the past.
Others felt that would only be a minor setback for the NYSE and guessed that Anonymous was planning a larger attack, perhaps even an attempt to actually disable trading on the exchange.
Anonymous confirms its DDoS attack with its Message to the People:
Forbes writes that invasion of the NYSE system not of nyse.com using a DDos attack is unlikely:
The exchanges system is designed to handle massive loads of traffic every second to accommodate trading flows, and its doubtful a traffic spike would be successful in knocking it offline. Stopping short of that, its unlikely that traders and brokers using their terminals and trading programs will even notice any disruption should NYSE.com go down.
Anonymous includes instruction on both of its videos for people to JOIN THE RAID against nyse.com on Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m. by downloading LOIC software and joining IRC, a link that will be go live when ready.
Forbes provides a few quick stats on the nyse.com, which it claims are underwhelming:
The website is ranked by Alexa as the 26,155th most visited site in the world. That puts it directly ahead of macromates.com, a site advertising a text editor for programming code. The 4 sites above it? A Russian gaming site, a mens clothing company, a Geocities-esque online entertainment site and a Netherlands-based soccer network. Not exactly esteemed company. Quantcast, another web analytics service, estimates the monthly traffic to be somewhere between 250,000 and 350,000 visitors worldwide. Google gets that many hits in about 10 minutes.
Anonymous recently exposed personal details about NYPD Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna who was accused by a protestor of brutality. Anonymous is also recently credited for hacking into the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system and releasing information after protesters phones were blocked.
Funny thing is that the idiots are likely downloading software right out of the Pentagon.
;-) Lets hope so.
Some jackass living in his mom’s basement is having fun again.
What do we pay the FBI for anyway?
PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anonymous used to be a big deal.
So are these “anonyms” just basement leeches who aren’t the real thing?
And please....do they REALLY think those masks they wear are really “scary”????
Well, the masks come from the “V For Vendetta” film which is roughly based on Guy Fawkes. They seem to have used it as an ‘every man’ symbol....like the ending of the movie when the people overthrew their oppressive govt.
Anyhoo......”Anonymous” could be anyone, however, they do seem to have some ring leaders in the IRC chat rooms. I have watched them over the past few years (they got their start on 4Chan) as online misfits and trolls....then went after the $cientologists.....now they have morphed into anarchists and, quite frankly, economic terrorists. Most of their work is done by downloading programs that help them DDoS websites. The forum leaders gather a consensus from other members what site they want to attack and they select the target (IP addy). But what I have really noticed during the Lulzsec episode is that they are now getting funding (through Bitcoin). I think they have been ‘taken over’, so to speak, by hard left organizations. Money talks.
Funny thing is....in the early days of “Anonymous”....they used to have a meme. “NYPA” or “Not Your Personal Army”. Seems that’s not the case, now.
These protester parasites claim to be for the “worker”... the teachers, builders, truckers, firemen... yadda yadda yadda.
Where do they think the life savings, 401K’s and pensions of all these “proletarians” are sitting? Under a rock somewhere? Nope... Wall street.
Remember when this clown was biting heads off of fake bats? Looking back he was pretty scary, right?
I wouldn’t think the NYSE would be averse to using whatever means necessary to extinguish the components of a threat such as this.
Mr. Clarke, phone call for Mr. Clarke. Please pick up the white courtesy phone in the lobby. Phone call for Mr. Clarke................
“Remember when this clown was biting heads off of fake bats? Looking back he was pretty scary, right?”
He still does! Even as pathetic as he is now. That reality show he had shows just how scary he is. His life has been one big train wreck. Oh sure he has a nice place and all but look at him. He is so pathetic! It is scary how years and years of drugs and wildness have made him a blabbering idiot. He had a stroke years ago because of the drugs. Now he has to wear adult diapers. Those don’t look good on stage with leather pants so he does not wear them on stage and after the first song he dumps a bucket of water on his head so the audience will not notice. Yea, he is scary. Train wreck scary.
Must read that book. Thanks
