NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Hey Big Apple: Disappointed with Apple?

While many New Yorkers were anticipating the reveal of the iPhone 5, Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook has instead unveiled the company’s new iPhone 4S.

It is said to run seven times faster than its predecessor and has new mobile software that can sync content wirelessly, without having to plug an iPhone to a Mac or Windows machine.

The iPhone has gained millions of fans since the first model came out in 2007, thanks to its slick looks, high-resolution screen and intuitive software.

Apple has improved its camera function which can lock auto-focus on a single point in the frame, reduce red-eye and auto-enhance photos. The camera app will now also be accessible from the lock screen.

Dude, you are like the Joseph Smith of the Apple cult...

I am but a lowly follower with one of each...

And a heretic with three Windows machines and a Windows phone...

What was anticipated for an iPhone 5 that is not in the 4S is the significantly thinner form factor, with a tear drop shape and aluminum back; a larger screen, 4 inches, and 4G speeds. The larger screen was a big point with me, I am used to the 4.3 inch size of my Android phones, and I like it. Make it thin and 4 inches and that will do just fine. The 3.5 inch screen makes the phone less usable for my old eyes, and movies, games and reading the news are just not as good.

Can't satisfy everyone, but what the iPhone 5 was expected to be was what I was hoping for. Now I have to decide if Siri and iCloud justify giving up my upgrade, even though the 5 is coming within 6-10 months. I'll be stuck with my next phone for 2 years.

“Despite my household having four MacBooks, four iPhones, Perhaps ten iPods and four iPads, I am not in the Apple Cult.”

LOL

“Yeah, Apple with their computers, ipods, iphones and ipads is just a flash in the pan and Apple will never be a major company in the United States.”

I’m going to get a lot of flak from freepers for saying this but...
This is the Sarah Palin phone. You wait months for the big announcement and it turns out that all she really meant was she was going to appear on Greta.

I am disappointed that a few features (LTE, for example) I was looking for in a new phone were left out. Anything is an improvement over my old phone, but I don't really like the idea of spending more money six months down the line for a phone I want. This seems to be about par for Apple, just leave out enough so consumers will buy the new one down the line to get something they want or need.

I guess I will look for alternatives, but I am not thrilled about them.

This is a bad start for the new Apple CEO. He should have introduced a better phone to make a bigger splash.

iCloud is a feature of iOS 5, so this will work on existing iPhone4 models as well. The only really new things are Siri and an upgraded camera (5 megapixel to 8 megapixel, and 720p video to 1080p), and the option of a 64Gb model. Everything else is pretty much exactly the same...

My iPhone 3GS looks the same as it’s predecessor the 3, but under the hood way better. I still have it and it’s held up better than some of my friends 3 model. I’ll wait for a 4g LTE model, likely the iPhone 5. But if I didn’t care about 4g, then the 4S model would be better than the 4 regardless of the nice price break on the 4.

The new processor is a big upgrade.

If I had an iPhone 4 I definitely would not upgrade. The issue for me is do I give up my Evo 3D for an iPhone. There are things I like on my current phone that iPhone doesn't have, so the new features will have to outweigh those. Or I can wait for iPhone 5. Decisions, decisions.

I thought about waiting for an iphone.

I’ve been very happy with my Evo3D. It’s not perfect, but does everything I need and then some.

The lack of 4G in the new iphone is a killer for me. They are way behind the curve in this respect.

I care about 4G. What’s the point of a faster processor if the internet is the biggest bottleneck? I’m not aware of a freerepublic app for either iphone or Android so any smartphone has to pass the straight up freerepublic test.

According to the stream of the presentation I watched, and Apple's website: on the iPhone 4S features, the antenna and related circuitry have been optimized to do 14.4 Mbps download (double from the iPhone 4), while still maintaining upload speed of 5.8 Mbps.

According to Apple, that's the same speed profile (both upload and download) as being advertised on current "4G" phones.

All this information comes from Apple, so take it for what it's worth. (Since they brought it up, they must be feeling vulnerable in this area....)

That’s only on ATT, using HSDPA. On Verizon and Sprint, it’s 3G CDMA.

I like the 3D more than I thought I would, it’s a very good phone. We don’t have 4G here, so the $10/month extra I pay Sprint is a waste. If they had it here, there’s no way I could go back to 3G. It’s like going back to dialup. Having SD card storage is nice, Apple won’t let you have that. The Siri and the iCloud features look very nice, so Apple has that going for it. I’ll have to think about it.

Check out Vlingo. It's been out for a year, and is a very good contextual speech-to-action app. Available for the iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile, and Symbian. Works great!

Jobs is not only gone, but I think he’s been sucking up to Obama. This is understood to be the kiss of death.

They all are. Ignore it, and concentrate on defeating the Won!

Oh, and please avoid mentioning death in relation to Jobs. He may be a political moron, but he's a genius, nevertheless!

It's a question of fitment, not size.
