It’s my fault for not staying up on this but I heard someone try to say that this was Holders effort to stop strawman purchases and it failed. I know that’s a lie but is there a reasonably short synopsis of the whole F&F scandal?
In 2009 the Obama administration, in an effort to jump-start anti-gun sentiment and bring about new and 'better' anti-gun legislation, claimed that 90% of all guns confiscated from drug cartels in Mexico originated in the United States, most of them having been obtained from gun stores in States bordering Mexico.
This claim was demonstrably false.
So, since it is well known that Barack Obama is never wrong about anything, persons in his administration set about trying to make the 90% figure true.

They say it was a “sting” operation, but haven’t been able to show ANY mechanism to follow the weapons.
This a.m. they’re saying “oh, we’ve made 370 arrests....”

In the year before Obama became HMFIC, they deduced there was NO Iron pipeline going to Mexico and were in the process of shutting it down. Obama and Holder said “If there isn’t one, we’ll make one and blame it on Bush to make us non complicit and use Bush’s program to take the second amendment down”. Simple, accurate and evidentiary.
Yup, the gubmint will stop "strawman purchases" by allowing "strawman purchases" by people who FAILED the NICS check, then allowed the weapons to go across a national border without notifying the other country.
Makes perfect sense to me! /sarc
