Hank Williams Jr. bounced from tonight's Monday Night Football opener after controversial comments

Hank Williams Jr. won't be ready for some football this Monday night.

ESPN bounced Williams' trademark opening "Are you ready for some football?" after the longtime voice of Monday Night Football's theme song, after he compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler.

"While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football," an ESPN spokesman wrote in an email to the Daily News.

"We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

The award-winning country singer made the controversial comparison in an interview on Fox and Friends Monday morning in a bizarre chat about politics.

Williams began his TV appearance by slamming the GOP presidential candidates and saying House Majority Leader John Boehner's golf game with Obama was a huge mistake.

"You remember the golf game they had? That was one of the biggest political mistakes ever. That turned a lot of people off. It just didn't go over," he said.

When asked what about the game he didn't like, Williams Jr. pointed to the participants.

"Come on, come on, that would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu," he said. "In the shape this country is in?"

When host Brian Kilmeade said he didn't understand the analogy, Williams Jr. replied "I'm glad you don't brother, because a lot of people do. They're the enemy... Obama! And Biden! Are you kidding? The Three Stooges."

It was not clear who the third stooge was in that analogy.

“Shouldn’t ESPN have an actual Hispanic sing the Intro Tune en Español?”

Yeah, play that old Ted Kennedy tape.

That’ll reel in the viewers.../s

ESPN is the same bunch who ditched Rush Limbaugh after he told the truth about media sucking up to Donovan NcNabb.

Pansy jockstrap-sniffers.

Wow...ESPN is ‘extremely disappointed’ that Hank Williams ‘spoke his mind’ and ‘offended’ Dear Leader.

I am extremely disappointed that ESPN GIVES hours of ‘air’ (read propaganda) time each March to Baracketology.

I guess this is one vote I will cast with my remote.

Monday night football? Is that still on? I stopped watching after Dandy Don Meridith quit. :-)

Seriously though, ole Hank was just following an old family tradition. Calling a spade a spade. Whoops!!! Oh dear I think I just went rogue.

Gadzooks, just went over to ESPN at http://espn.go.com/espn/conversations/_/id/7056003/espn-pulls-hank-williams-jr-ready-opening-mnf and you should see how many commenters are supporting old Hank!

I am trying to recall of the celebs who compared President Bush with Adolf Hitler and what became of them.

Nah, now all the players and coaches are decked out in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Remember when the NFL was about FOOTBALL instead of PC BS and rock concerts?

I think the pink breast-cancer awareness month has replaced Hispano month. Looks like all the lib causes are starting to overlap, just a when Rush on his TV show years ago wore his dozen ribbons on his suit.

Free speech bigots.

Since the NFL is a big dem donor I bounced them and the Broncos three years ago. Don't miss them.

Maybe they can get David Allen Coe to fill in...

Tell them all to BOYCOTT DISNEY. Drop their cable subscriptions to ESPN and write the advertisers.

Since they moved it from ABC to ESPN cable only, a majority who don’t have cable or Dish network won’t know he isn’t on.

I’m with Hank and he better not apologize to get back the gig.

NFL is skating on thin ice.

If the right is smart, it will destroy them.

They are nothing but an extension of the slave trade, with no guarantee contracts and extreme violence against blacks.

Somebody over there had better find a clue quick, because if Hank Jr doesn’t sing tonight, the NFL might as well start using a soccer ball, because NASCAR NFL fans WILL REVOLT.

I quit watching MNF after they canned Dennis Miller.

Watching his OneLiners fly over Al Michaels’ toupee in my mind’s eye allowed me to tolerate Michaels.

No more, besides the NFL has been going out of their way to alienate me from their product.

I’m a life long 49ers fan (I saw YA Tittle throw the Alley-Oop to RC Owens at Kezar Stadium when I was in grade school, so I’m no 80’s Dynasty Johnny Come Lately...I endured the Thomas Years, too)

Since Unrestricted Free Agency, the Owners have been trashing the Game IMHO.

Hank jr. is a friend of my band's singer, Mike Smith.

Mike says: "Hank junior's daddy would be saying now...

There's a tear in my beer
'cause I'm cryin' for you,dear
you are on my lonely mind. ...

I beg to differ!

Those SuperBowl half time shows are NOT rock concerts!

Far from it...they’re Pop Pablum for the Grandpa Simpsons in the audience.
