GOP tries to roll back regs
Politico ^ | October 3, 2011 09:57 AM EDT | GOP tries to roll back regs

House Republicans are moving ahead on two bills aimed at cutting what they consider harmful regulation, a move they’re positioning as an olive branch to President Barack Obama weeks after he rolled out his jobs proposal.

The GOP has scheduled two bills for the floor this week: the EPA Regulatory Relief Act and the Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act. Both bills have bipartisan support in the House, but the outlook in the Senate is unclear.

The GOP continues to nibble at a few specific  regulations which will close down parts of a few specific industries. Yet the do nothing about the source of the abuse, unelected bureaucrats in executive departments making "laws" through regulation.

Why don't they just end the regulatory nightmare altogether and require any regulation that will have the "force of law" to be ratified by both Houses of Congress by an actual vote.

Article 1, of the United States Constitution says that Congress makes the laws. It says there, "All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives." Nowhere in there does it say that the EPA has any legislative authority.

Should be worded ---- Both bills have bipartisan support in the House of Commons, but the outlook in the House of Lords is unclear.

Obama is hanging himself the last few weeks. Hardly anyone likes him.

I think the GOP should be careful here. If they do something too "newsworthy" they take the spotlight from Obama and give him a target to shoot at.

The public is currently getting educated about economics and capitalism (how regulations hurt the economy) through Obama's missteps. We need to let that education continue as long as possible. Sine that education is occurring because of Obama's over-reach, perhaps we want it to continue a bit longer. I think the GOP may be doing the right thing at least for the time being by keeping somewhat quiet and letting Obama hang himself.

Quicker and easier, limit the EPA to 20 employees.

Rid us of local government regulations against small manufacturing and milling starts, and you’d get a lot of support for repealing federal regulations. Regulation is not a substitute for proper competition. The local Republican Party is local but socialist.

Local governments do sometimes try to regulate things excessively, or become corrupt. However, keeping tabs on your neighbors who run the local city council or county commission is generally easier than taming the beast in Washington.

Do you have a local TEA Party group? or a group of constitutional conservatives? (outside the GOP hierarchy) If not, organize one.

Does your TEA party group attend city council meetings and county commission meetings? Ours in my county does. We grill our county commissioners about accepting federal "Grant money." In my state, county commissioners swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of our State. If they are begging for Federal grants, we grill them, asking them which specific enumerated power Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution authorizes the federal Congress to tax the people of North Dakota and Oregon to pay for a (pick one: sewage treatment plant, school, local road project, county jail, park) in Florida?

The ones that don't have good answers get voted out and replaced with more conservative people who are committed to all of that oath.

You may wish to investigate how United Nations Agenda 21 is affecting local regs at the county and municipal level. While the Federal regs work from top down, Agenda 21 is designed to work from the bottom up.

Thank you. There were some conservative individuals but not very active, and at least some of them were cleaned out by the economy and local regulatory aggressions (corruption). I’ll give it a try, as soon as time permits. Up on the Range and doing some backfilling, before the freeze starts (any day now).

Thanks. I’m aware of Agenda 21 and have seen the fake environmentalists and animal worshippers in commissioners’ meetings in more than one locale over the past 11 years or so. They’re family members, former employees and other social associates of businesses that don’t believe in competition (big developers, real estate, other global interests).

They fight each new business proposed by any man. They stop energy companies from drilling or mining. They also attack the older, more traditional ranchers with waves of false charges and insane lawsuits (only one such rancher left around here now, who is not one of the English saddle set). They complain about declining property values and try to prohibit others from developing their own properties. Most of their outside/area support comes from retired, pensioned folks.

In short, the most of the supporters of anti-competition interests mentioned above are older NIMBYs and HOA queens with wallflower “partners”/husbands/boyfriends. And this is a Republican majority County.
