The people who are discounting Perry who never lost an elections in his life do not know a thing about how elections are won.

Those are the same utterly delusional people who think that a Pizza company CEO who has never been elected to any government post, a six year congresswomen from Minnesota, a washed out defeated Senator from Pennsylvania, etc... have better chance of winning the nomination than Perry, three times governor of the largest conservative state in the Union, and the state that created 40% of all the new jobs in the country in the last 2 years.
