There are places where solar energy is very practical, for instance, heating a house or powering something in a remote location as you point out.
I see the massive solar project as the wrong approach. Many small and unique solutions seems more the right tactic to use solar energy.

We weren’t making an arguement for subsides and the stealing of our resources, but instead giving solar power its due where it has a place and it does not have a place in the likes of Solyndra.

I do see small steps when I tend to recall the Wrigleys selling nickel a pack chewing gum and getting rich. Of course their fortune didn't come overnight in a gov. grant or loan. They made something people actually wanted.
