I don’t think a convoluted plan to get somebody “voting Dem” has anything to do with it.
The essential thing is that Obama doesn’t think Mexicans are human beings. He thinks they’re icky little brown people who speak some language he can’t understand and are mostly Catholic, and therefore they’re disposable garbage to prove his point (which is that guns themselves are evil and the US is the source of all evil in the world).
The thing about Obama is that he is so stupid and so full of hate that this hare-brained scheme actually seemed logical to him.
