Exodus follows ruling upholding state's tough law cracking down on illegal immigration

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Hispanic students have started vanishing from Alabama public schools in the wake of a court ruling that upheld the state's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration.

Education officials say scores of immigrant families have withdrawn their children from classes or kept them home this week, afraid that sending the kids to school would draw attention from authorities.

There are no precise statewide numbers. But several districts with large immigrant enrollments — from small towns to large urban districts — reported a sudden exodus of children of Hispanic parents, some of whom told officials they planned to leave the state to avoid trouble with the law, which requires schools to check students' immigration status.

Rick Perry is the only guy in town trying to stop bleeding TAX payers on this issue.

The feds wont stop the flow.
They shove the issue to the states.
Perry is doing what he can with the ****ty hand he was dealt.

A misleading headline: as there is absolutely NO reason for Hispanics who are here legally to stay away from school,the headline should say “illegals” stay away from school. The illegals will simply re-locate to more propitious climes. In Cook County Illinois for example, the local Democratic politicians have decided they would rather pander to foreign lawbreakers than protect their own citizens. They refuse to cooperate with federal immigration agents. Just two weeks ago, a citizen was killed by a DUI illegal with several previous convictions. He was still in the country because the Machine wanted it that way.

The man is in a difficult position and I think he has done well on the matter.

When Perry spoke out against Arizona-style immigration laws in Texas last year, do you know who he was addressing?

He was speaking to the National Council of La Raza when he made those remarks.

When he came out in support of open borders and talked about bi-national healthcare, he was speaking down on the border with some Governors from Mexico. In 2007 when he chewed Congress out for not passing a guest worker bill, he was in Mexico City.

But please, continue telling us how unfair Ricardo is being treated.

Texas is only one of many states that ring the dinner bell. Look at California. Free medical care, welfare, no questions asked on jobs, etc. Then there are full-blown “sanctuary cities.” And when a state tries to do something about it, they get sued by the federal gov’t. All Rick Perry said was that the Az law that Jan Brewer passed was “Not right for Texas”

Specifically, he feels that a continuous fence does not make sense for Texas.

I lived on the border in Az and Jan Brewer knows that a continuous fence is logistically impossible in Az as well.

And Rick Perry did not “Speak out” on the matter.
He was pressed on it after Jan Brewer show boated.

On July 10, 2010, he was a featured speaker at the National Conference of La Raza's annual conference in San Antonio. Although his mocking of Bill White and his Harvard education (his Democratic opponent in last year's election) got more attention, Perry told conference members when talking about the Arizona legislation, that it "may be right for Arizona, but it ain't exactly right for Texas"

This weekend, while addressing the National Council of La Raza in San Antonio, Perry told the 2,000 Hispanics in attendance that he would oppose Texas' adopting a similar law. It "may be right for Arizona, but it ain't exactly right for Texas," the governor said.

The Arizona law, which is facing a federal legal challenge, allows police to seek proof of legal residency from those stopped for other infractions if they suspect the offender is an illegal immigrant.

"For example, some aspects of the law turn law enforcement officers into immigration officials by requiring them to determine immigration status during any lawful contact with a suspected alien, taking them away from their existing law enforcement duties, which are critical to keeping citizens safe. Our focus must continue to be on the criminal elements involved with conducting criminal acts against Texans and their property. I will continue to work with the legislative leadership to develop strategies that are appropriate for Texas.

To be quite honest, not only should you be upset that Perry made those remarks, both in April of last year, and again in July at the La Raza national conference, you should be upset that Perry would legitimize that organization in the first place by speaking in front of them.

By the way, I don't buy into the crap that Perry had to speak to La Raza to help him defeat the Democrat. I've seen some use that as a defense, and I'm not buying it for one second.

He used those words in front of La Raza. There was even a FR thread about it, which I linked in my response.

And I'm surprised it doesn't bother you that Perry addressed La Raza in the first place. Or maybe I shouldn't be.
