Mike Huckabee has been approached by Republican and conservative activists unhappy with the current crop of presidential hopefuls and he is considering entering the fray, two sources who have spoken with Huckabee told Reuters.
The former Arkansas governor, who made a splash by winning the Iowa caucuses as a candidate in 2008, announced last May on his Fox News show that he would not enter the race.
But the conservative Huckabee, who appeals to evangelical Christians and is seen as an effective campaigner, is taking another look at jumping in, said the two sources, who are close to Huckabee. They spoke to Reuters on the condition of anonymity.
"He is entertaining the request for conversations about it," one of the sources said. "I do not think it is a complete 100 percent 'I'm reconsidering' but he hasn't shut the door on it."

Okay, that’s it. I’m throwing my hat in the ring. I’ll annnounce next week. :-)
This is getting over the top.
In the meantime, the primaries will be starting early, the announced candidates have three months. I’m pretty satisfied with the field we’ve got..and Herman Cain is the first announced candidate I’ve contributed to. I want a problem solver with good common sense. He’s my choice.
Any minute now, John McCain and Alan Keyes will throw their hats in the ring.
I will not forget what Huckabee and his pals, the Clintons
did when they were all criminals together.
Huckabee, we did not forget.
Maybe Jeb Bush will his announce his candidacy. And how about that George Allen - maybe he’ll run for President instead of for Senator.
Are you that desperate, Senior Bush back again?
Sure...
How about Bush-Quayle 2012?
/sarc.
He might as well...the rest look incapable enough
Say, I thought of something... what about asking Howard Baker, the guy who was on the Watergate committee? He sure seemed like real presidential timber to me. What ever happened to him? Do you suppose he would consider running to “save our party?” /Sarc
It is getting ridiculous.
Huckabee would likely pull RiNO votes off of Romney, though.
That's about the only good thing I see in his entering the race. He's got too much baggage to really make much of an impact in the primaries.
Howard Baker is 86 years old. He’s even older than Ron Paul.
Aside from that, "it's too late for any more candidates to enter the race." (or so we're told)
Meanwhile, the 7th and 9th place "frontrunners" are still slinging mud at each other.
Let Huckabee and Christie get in. The more RINOs the better! Just leaves the door WIDE open for a conservative win.
Howard Baker is 86 years old. Hes even older than Ron Paul.
Pub, perhaps you didn’t see the sarc tag at the end of my post. I WAS KIDDING!!!
Governor Palin was right...she said the field wasn’t finalized; and that others would jump in and out as time rolls on...is anyone else embarrassed for this country yet?
Everyone’s getting back in, so why not John Thune? Or Haley Barbour?
Are we sure McCain hasn’t changed his mind, and isn’t considering a rerun? What about Bob Dole? And jeez, while we’re at it, why not Papa Bush? He only served one term...
OK, I was slow on the draw...people have already mentioned McRino, Dole, and GHWB here. So how about a fresh new face? Pat Buchanan. Or Pat Robertson.
” There wont be a single new entry into the race folks, period. “
Probably a month ago I saw a Republican pundit ( can’t remember his name at the moment )
on one of the cables dispassionately discussing the field.
His take, having participated in a previous presidential campaign ,
was that the field was set.
The logistics of suddenly getting a campaign up and running
within a few weeks was almost insurmountable.
In the short window it would be extremely difficult to get the candidate’s name
on the ballot in 50 states,
experienced consultants and political advisors and savvy ad men
were already taken,
attempting to raise the millions needed for the primaries
would be very difficult as most fundraisers
were already committed, etc.
Realistically and practically, the odds are that
what we see is what we are going to get.
It’s all moot.

UPDATE: Huckabee told Fox News host Neil Cavuto in an interview this afternoon that he was not reconsidering his decision.
Its news to me that Im sitting down plotting my comeback,
he said, noting he didnt have the financial resources or organization to mount a campaign. “
Didn’t he run, back in 80?
(Just sort of inside baseball here, but...I do know some people “in the know” and they say that Howard Bakers is competent and decent, and hardworking in the extreme. They speak of him in the highest possible terms. They in fact say that he would have been President, but apparently he had a wife who was more or less clinical, and also seriously alcoholic. Very sad, really.....Now all that said: I don’t think anyone said that Baker was a serious conservative. They just insist he is competent....sort of sounds like James Baker. Would that these men were conservative, as competence and hard work is not something that can be scoffed at! Also, if my memory is correct, didn’t Baker sort of bring a little order to a White House that was starting to get a little chaotic at the end of the Reagan presidency? Maybe that is the perfect role for him: head of transition for President Cain!)
