Texas Gov. Rick Perry is defending his policy of allowing tuition assistance for illegal immigrants at state colleges and universities, saying the lack of a cohesive federal immigration policy forced his hand.

One of the few tools that states are allowed to use is E-Verify, but Perry doesnt like it. It would put too many of his followers out of a job.
Perry touted all the jobs Texas has created even though 81 percent of the jobs created since 2007 in Texas have gone to immigrants who arrived here since 2007. Ninety-three percent of these immigrants arent citizens and an estimated 50 percent are illegal aliens while the percentage of Americans in Texas holding jobs fell from 71 percent in 2007 to 67 percent in 2011.
You're a liar.
I am just trying to point out how poorly Perry is handling the issue, Romney can be attacked on this in about 100 different ways, but Perry is just letting him get away with positioning himself to the right of Perry, which is just freaking crazy.
To me this would be like Romney accusing Perry of being soft on crime... and getting away with it!
Feds the problem.
Run the numbers...
Perry in office 11 years
Obie in office 3 years
BLAME BUSH!!!
They file an affidavit where they say they WILL apply for legal residence, as soon as that is possible (which is as soon as the federal government creates a way for those here illegally, to be here legally). That's the extent of the "work toward citizenship" they are required to undertake.
......."Of 1.3 million college students in Texas in 2010, 1.2 percent (16,476) were illegal immigrants receiving tuition breaks through the affidavit route. (.....The vast majority of affidavit students in Texas last year got an average in-state tuition reduction of $1,600 to $2,600. If they got that rate for four years, the total "discount" would be $6,400 to $10,400. And that group of 12,028 community college affidavit students made up less than 1 percent of the 1,364,911 college students enrolled in Texas last year."....
__________
Incidentally, the enrollment (as noted above) of students in colleges and universities in Texas is 1.3 Million, that's almost double the population of the state of Alaska.
They're Mexican citizens.
You think that they DON’T want U.S. citizenship? Get real.
LINKS!
A good politician can make any stand on any issue look good, or at least make his opponent look worse on the issue, or at the very least change the subject to something he is strong on or his opponent is weak on.
DO SOMETHING PERRY!
good freaking grief, I am almost to the point of wanting freaking Palin to jump in!
ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
Really? While other Perry supporters are acknowledging that Perry is WRONG on the issue, you're defending it.
You have NO CLUE how far out of step you are with conservatives.

...the in-state tuition debate isnt really about tuition at all its about amnesty. First of all, the DREAM Act moniker is borrowed from proposed federal legislation which would have legalized certain illegal aliens brought here before their 16th birthday an amnesty, in other words. The state-level DREAM Acts are just efforts at creating momentum and awareness for the amnesty legislation.
The problem with this, of course, is that once they graduate with this taxpayer-subsidized education, theyre still illegal aliens and so its illegal to hire them. (The stuff about pursuing citizenship is meaningless chaff theres no such thing for people in this situation.) Theyre not going to make our country better or go on to create money for the economy or be contributing members in the state of Texas if theyre still illegal aliens.
(snip)
Now, maybe theres an argument to be made for legalizing certain illegal aliens brought here at a very young age whose identities were formed here and who know no other country. Actually, Ive made that very argument many times. But if were going to debate amnesty for people in this situation, then lets debate amnesty. Arguing for in-state tuition for illegal aliens without making plain that the real objective is legal status is incomplete at best, dishonest at worst.
Oh I know, you think someone is going to deport them (Good luck with that)
Or they won't be able to find “jobs” so they will go “home” when they have been raised here all their lives (Good luck with that)
The Dream Act(s) have a carrot (resident tuition) but also a stick- parents must prove they lived in state, kids went to schools in state, and parents paid state taxes)
and students must agree to register.
Now- which party and candidate more likely to enforce the stick part?
And no, Cain and Bachmann are not going to round up and deport millions of people. No one is.
The case is Plyler v. Doe, and it holds for K-12.
Just clarifying, because some colleges and universities are also public.
you are correct.
>>The supreme court has ordered that the state must allow the children of illegal aliens to attend public schools.<<
Yes, lots of laws have been passed which are destroying our nation. Obamacare is another example.
That is why America is dying.
A minute ago you said Perry’s position is indefensible. Are you now defending it?
I respect your right to defend Perry but it does not help his cause if your only defense of him is to attack another candidate. I will never support Perry because of his stance on illegal immigration nor Romney for his stance on Romneycare.
>>You think that they DONT want U.S. citizenship? Get real.<<
So you are FOR a path to citizenship, AKA “Amnesty.”
Duly noted.
You have a clue on defeating a good conservative for hopes of your own candidate.
