Rick Perry said Wednesday that he was sorry for saying at last week's Republican debate that those opposed to providing an in-state tuition break to the children of illegal immigrants "did not have a heart."
I was probably a bit over-passionate by using that word and it was inappropriate, Perry said in a interview with Newsmax. In Texas in 2001 we had 181 members of the legislature only four voted against this piece of legislation because it wasnt about immigration it was about education.
But Perry stood by his argument that building a fence along the entire Mexican border was unwise. The Texas governor said that the fence would likely be expensive, ineffective and violate the property rights of those who owned land on the border.
In the metropolitan areas where the fencing actually can play a positive role, absolutely, he said. But you have to have boots on the ground
having an obstacle without observation is no obstacle at all. So just the idea of building a fence and saying, That will take care of it, lets just build a fence, has never worked in the history of mankind.

Nothing down ticket worth voting for?
I have some problems with some of Perry’s views on illegals and Gardasil, and such but they are not dealbreakers. His apologizing is worse. That makes me think he would not be able to stand up to MSM and Democrat moralizing and harassment as either a candidate or a President.

What a flip flop or outright lie. Perry vetoed a bill which would have protected the landowners in the way of the TTC (Trans Texas Corridor).

Actually, Israel has had excellent results with its fence.
Since when has Perry given a damn about property rights? Trans-Texas Corridor anyone?
I guess it's o.k. to take Texan's land if it will make a buck for some of his fellow crony capitalists, but securing our border from invasion just isn't important to him.
I like Cain also but what is his Foreign policy stance???? He’s more business/economics...What about dealing with all the nuts out there?????

These pro-Perry people need to cut the crap. Romney didn’t gain from Perry’s drop, Cain did. If Romney wins it will be the Democrats who cross over to vote for him. I don’t know anyone who supports Romney. Not a single voter. It’s only the beltway boys and their pundits who are trying to make Romney king.
He sure isn't getting any points for being obsequious.
It wasn't important until he entered the race.
I believe you’re right.
And just for the record, those people that would have lost their property would have been compensated, in most cases more than what it's really worth.
It was he that pushed back against sanctuary cities in Texas such as Houston.
Put the Texas State Guard on the border.
Has the Department of Public Safety hand over illegals involved in crime to ICE.
Ridicules the Fed (Who actually owns this task of securing our border) for not doing more.
But! Because he supports having children (who had no say in the matter- their parents broke the law) have an opportunity to go to higher education (In a state where you have a consumption and property tax which means these people pay their share as well) somehow makes him favor or weak on the illegal issue. This is simply one of those idiot topics (reduced in content to the point of absurdity) where if they propose wrapping barbwire around peoples ankles you have to say emphatically that you support it, or else you're weak on crime.
It's an ignorant argument where the real culprits are ignored, the innocent are punished, the macro level economic and crime effect is ignored and those who we are now supposed to say “no” too (The children of illegals), actually will or have paid for this (Texas has no income tax- it's a consumption and property tax based and ALL pay, even the illegal every-time they buy anything).
Your words: “but securing our border from invasion just isn't important to him. “ Tell me what state other than Arizona has done more about illegals than Texas under Perry?
The town on the wrong side of America's drugs war
It's a much different that a state taking land for public use, whatever you think of the failed TTC.
Failed my arse. If you think they have forgotten about it or that it wont be forced through somehow guess again. Perry wants that road as do all the pushers of the North American Union.
Yep, he still supports the law passed by the Legislature with near-unanimous votes. Twice. In 2001 and 2005. Only one bill introduced to overturn it, and that had no co-sponsors.
The law is a set of exceptions to who pays non-resident tuition.
That same law allows kids who live in border states in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana to pay in state tuition. It also allows Mexican residents who go to certain schools within a 100 miles of the border to pay in state tuition.
And it allows the military stationed in our State, veterans who move here and their dependents to pay in state tuition. It has a similar exception for survivors of those who die in the military, if they move to Texas.
We have a River — you know, like a moat.
But if you build a fence around a prison and drive away so that there’s no way to respond to a breach of the fence, the prison will be empty soon enough.
