A young Christian at an purity rally spreads the word.
True love doesnt wait after all.
Thats the implication in the upcoming October issue of an evangelical magazine that claims that young, unmarried Christians are having premarital sex almost as much as their non-Christian peers.
The article in Relevant magazine, entitled (Almost) Everyones Doing It, cited several studies examining the sexual activity of single Christians. One of the biggest surprises was a December 2009 study, conducted by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, which included information on sexual activity.
While the studys primary report did not explore religion, some additional analysis focusing on sexual activity and religious identification yielded this result: 80 percent of unmarried evangelical young adults (18 to 29) said that they have had sex - slightly less than 88 percent of unmarried adults, according to the teen pregnancy prevention organization.
The article highlights what challenges abstinence movements face. Movements such as True Love Waits, encourage teens to wear purity rings, sign virginity pledges and pledge chastity during public ceremonies.
Yet many of these Christian youths eventually abandon their purity pledges, Relevants Tyler Charles concludes in the article. Tyler talked to people like Maria, an evangelical woman who said she wanted to wait until marriage to have sex.
But she said she started having sex with her college boyfriend when she turned 20 because nearly everyone, even most of her Christian friends, were having sex.

You left out the biggest influence of all - government schools.
I should have corrected my post - I didn’t mean Christians don’t get Christianity. I meant researchers.
Shortly after my first kid, doing a paid research thing for post-natal depression, I filled out monthly surveys. “Do you feel you have anyone in your life that you can tell EVERYTHING?” Well, no, not a person. But yes, I can tell God. I could not answer the question as it was unclear - had a personal interview and said, I don’t have a fellow human on the planet I can tell everything too, but I can and do tell God everything, how do I mark that? They were mystified, couldn’t answer the question, did not allow for the possibility that some of the young mothers might have a personal God they could confide in - and that it might help with post natal depression levels.
Same here. :)
Welcome!
It’s only been 6 years but it’s been the best 6 of my adult life.
The devil is such a genius at twisting stuff. That’s all the devil can do since having forsaken holiness, and the result is the sordid, banal story of fallen humanity willingly in his grip.
can’t watch Sunday Night Football without ads for “Playboy Club”.... VIOS gives us Playboy TV, it is HARDCORE porn. We have it blocked on every TV.
“Whats the garnish? Horseradish? Deep frying that stuff must be tricky because its so moisture laden.”
yup beet horseradish. You roll each one in matzo meal before frying
I consider them part of the “mass media”.
I’d have taken it pretty broadly and answered yes, even if deity hadn’t even dawned on those who framed the question.
I waited 19 years. I was in college, had my first “real” relationship, I decided it was time — and that was that. I now live in the hookup capital of the world (Manhattan), have a job that could afford me lots of it (think Glen Quagmire).
However, I feel good about my approach towards sex. I don’t have it unless I’m in a committed relationship. I’m 30, and I’m always surprised how many women respect (and share) that nuanced approach.
Here’s a thread posted on FR.
I’m having trouble finding the book, and will have to log off. I heard a radio program covering the topic and resource several months ago. Meant to jot the info. down, but failed to. Now I’m left to wonder aimlessly around cyberspace. Perhaps one of our FReeps will know of which book I speak.
Will try to post that title and author for you asaI can.
Sounds like it doesn’t really matter to them what God says - only what everybody else says. Do these folks know the meaning of the word “idolatry”? Have they opened their Bibles at all?
Anybody claiming to be Christian who says they started having sex with their boyfriend because everybody else is doing it has no clue of what Christianity even is. Are they familiar with the whole concept of sin? Repentance? Sanctification?
My apologies. I didn’t not post the link in my last comment. Here it is:

>>And it is not because they have less sex at the rich schools.<<
LOL!!!
YOU brought up money. That thought never crossed my mind.
However schools in liberal land DO have more sexually active teens because no matter how “religious” they are, they are on the left side of that denomination.
My apologies. I didnt not post the link in my last comment. Here it is:

True love may not wait, but let me tell you, Christians wait! The trouble is many people call themselves Christians
simply because they are not Jewish!
A True Christian has experienced the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and follows faithfully God’s laws. His/her old self has died and he/she has become a new person whose sins have been forgiven by Jesus Christ Who died to pay the price for those sins to give us life everlasting. This rebirth doesn’t always happen when one is young. It can happen any time of life, according to the person’s need and if his/her recognition that they need the Lord.
So I repeat that True Christians do wait until marriage for intimacy. It is up to one’s parents to be sure the child understands this important virtue. Sadly, this is not an easy job for parents with of all Satan’s temptations of today. But with loving care, it can be accomplished.
“...he was telling me that he has heard...”
Hearsay. Unless your son has firsthand facts, it’s hearsay.
"RELEVANT Magazine - God. Life. Progressive Culture."
That's the tagline. they have articles against oil refiners ("tax breaks costing TX schools millions"), gay stuff, etc. NOTHING "Evangelical" about it. Typical CNN lies. And the group ther article cites is funded by the Allen Gutmacher Institute - the (fake) "research" arm of Planned Parenthood.
Cubs fan?
