Perry hits Romney on 'Race to the Top' -- but also Jeb Bush
St. Petersburg Times ^ | SEPTEMBER 27, 2011

Posted on 09/27/2011 10:24:12 AM PDT by WFTR

Rick Perry today spread a web video accusing Mitt Romney of taking two sides on a centerpiece of Barack Obama's education policy, Race to the Top. The issue came up in Thursday's debate in Orlando and Romney distanced himself from earlier comments, made a few days earlier in Miami. But in attacking Romney, Perry is by extension taking a shot at Jeb Bush, who has praised Obama's initiatives.

... The Washington Post notes that Perry selectively edited out the end of Romney's remarks, where he says "but for me, get that back to the state level."

I know that everyone on Free Republic hates Mitt Romney, and I know that many love Rick Perry. In spite of that hatred, does the basic dishonesty of the Perry campaign bother anyone? Mitt Romney was praising certain ideas of education reform. Whether one agrees with those ideas or not, his complete statements show that he was not in favor of more federal programs but in favor of letting states do what they see as best. The Perry campaign selectively edited his comments in their ad to be misleading. Rick Perry's attack at the debate was false and misleading.

The other example of his campaign's dishonesty was the way he handled the lobbying question about the Gardasil executive order. People wanted to know what influences led to his decision. No matter how much that 31-year-old cancer victim impacted him later, she did not influence his decision on the original executive order.

Rick Perry is flailing right now, and he's saying things that are misleading at best or outright lies at worst. I'll vote for him if he wins the nomination, but he looks pathetic.

Bad idea to go after Romney on education. Texas isn’t exactly known to be strong on this issue.

Yes it bothers me , Perry will say anything and as an extension of that , do anything to win. I do not believe he has a set of principle that are non negotiable. The irony is , he is the same sleazy say and do anything politician that Romney is.

yes but there are so many other ways to get him. He’s going to get set up for a big one.

Juvenile rock chunking. Strange behavior for a candidate whose supporters say he is comfortably in the lead.

By the way, should Romney get the nomination, The Washington Post will turn on Romney and will be happy to point out Romneys pandering and flip flops and how he has been on every side of every issue.

Right now its not in their interest to do so.

“I know that everyone on Free Republic hates Mitt Romney...”

I loathe his rotten filthy liberal guts. That lying bastard has never spoken a truthful word in his whole miserable life.

Jim Jeffords and Arlen Spector are far and away more trustworthy and conservative than Mutt Romney. I wouldn't piss in his ear if his head was on fire.

You’re wrong about the race to top not being a big deal. Anyone who thinks that race to the top is not an important issue, doesn’t have any concept of what Obama is trying to do with education.

Obama’s plan is to use education as another tool for redistribution. The best thing that we can hope for in education is to get the federal government out of it completely, and I am not talking about social issues.

You speak the truth , of course, but The Washington Post is hoping we will forget all that right now. But then when Romney is running against their boy, Obama, they will remind you know of it every single day. LOL

Texas numbers are dragged down by the high % of hispanics.

Texas actually has developed a really good program to help struggling students and prevent them from falling behind. Instead of classifying students as special ed (they might have sp. ed, as well), Texas schools pull out students for tutoring as soon as they fail a single test. They go for tutoring every day until their test scores improve.

That sure beats anything that the Obama administration is advocating.

Yep and almost everyone here feels exactly the same way about Mitt Romney. Does the OP think we will feel sorry for poor Mitt being attacked on pandering?

If anything Perry has been to open on his issues and not nuanced enough. What you see is what you get.

I like someone who sticks to his guns no matter how unpopular a position might be.

I refuse to ever vote for that bastard, even if morons destroy every other candidate running and he gets the nomination.

The man is evil and without principal or morals.
