The final work that was published contains most of the stories that Mr. McGinniss complains were nothing more than tawdry gossip that amounted to the wishful fantasies of disturbed individuals, Tiemessen writes. Since both your company, and the author, clearly knew the statements were false, admitted they had no basis in fact or reality, but decided to publish in order to harm Governor Palins family, you and Mr. McGinniss have defamed the Palins.

Probably better to just let it slide and not make an issue about it.
So you would allow someone to LIE about your family with impunity? You call yourself an American with that attitude? She need to go for the throat that is all liberals understand.
Clean them out and serve notice to the rest of the media that you'll do the same to them if they pull a stunt like that.
I’m just saying that the discovery process could bring up things that don’t need to be brought up. I find suing over a silly book to be beneath what a potential president should be worried about.
Did Bush sue Kitty Kelly over her tabloid book?
And yes, I do “call myself an American” with that attitude. As an American, my first instinct isn’t to sue somebody over a goofy book by a goofy author.
I understand that being litigious for fun and profit is not a good thing, but our good names are all we have. If you allow a lie to stand, it becomes the truth.
I support this action.
game on!
His presidency was the same way. And the media piled on him with impunity.
If they have evidence that the author and publisher knowingly published false statements with malicious intent, thats actionable. Besides, here in the nyc area radio jocks are read tabloid rumors as gospel based on allegations from that book. Action had to be taken.
I don’t really care one way or another, but in this instance, I think the better course of action is to just let the book go away, which it basically has already.
Even the MSM panned this McGinniss clown on his talk show tour. Suing will allow Random House to show things that are true in the book, and puts it back in the news cycle. I also found the last sentence, where the Palin lawyer mentioned a settlement, to be a bit damaging as well.
I think a dime is about all little Joey the Peeper has. The five books they got in at my local Walmart are still there collecting dust. Nobody is buying that garbage except for hardcore, “progressive” commie libs and there aren’t any of those around here. Everyone around here carries guns.
They should have sued. Many of us said the same thing. When liberals make garbage up - SUE THEM!
The line “Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions or if you wish to resolve this dispute.” is damaging?
Good lord, what kind of America are you? Do you understand basic English? Did you perhaps not imagine that part of the resolving could be an APOLOGY with no monetary damages?
Sheese..........
In the past week, I’ve seen one group of FReepers talk of a class-action lawsuit against Rick Perry and Merck for retarding young women, and now full-fledged support for a lawsuit because of some anonymous sourcing in a gossip book.
I’m ambivalent on this Palin lawsuit. I only think it won’t help her if she does run. I also am starting to wonder if the ABA has become a montly donor here. :)
Gawd!..I must be a liberal!
Twice now in this thread you’ve questioned my American patriotism/nationality, and all because I don’t see how this lawsuit would benefit Sarah Palin. Get a grip.
So now my asking you if you understand basic English is an “attack on your nationality”?
You really are at the wrong place.
Whiner.
Unfortunately, the American public also believes Jon Stewart is a legitimate newscaster. They portray the McGuiness' of the world as reporters and non-fiction writers when really all they are are propagandists that would make Goebbels proud.
Palin should drag him back through that same mud as loudly as possible.
Good lord, what kind of America are you? Do you understand basic English?
I'm not whining. I'm pointing out that you twice questioned me as an American. Funny that you'd be upset at me pointing out facts in a thread about a libel lawsuit, but I'm sure that irony is lost on you. Also, in your second effort, your own "basic English" could use some polish, because as you wrote it, it infers that I'm "America", and I can tell you that I'm not a country.
Doubly ironic, isn't it? ;)
