A letter forwarded on Friday by a proven reliable source to Gun Rights Examiner and Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey Street Irregulars documents Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives management authorizing the sale of firearms, which sources say were intended for delivery to cartel purchasers as part of the Fast and Furious / Gunwalker scandal. Written by then-ATF Phoenix Group VII Supervisor David Voth, the June 01, 2010 letter to a Federal Firearms Licensee, whose name is redacted, advises:
Per Section925(a)(1) of the Gun Control Act (GCA) exempts law enforcement agencies from the transportation, shipment, receipt, or importation controls of the GCA when firearms are to be used for the official business of the agency.
Please accept this letter in lieu of completing an ATF Form 4473 for the purchase of four (4) CAI, Model Draco, 7.62x39 mm pistols, by Special Agent John Dodson. These aforementioned pistols will be used by Special Agent Dodson in furtherance of the performance of his official duties. In addition, Special Agent Dodson has not been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. If you have any questions, you may contact me at telephone number 602-605-6501.
A hand-written note at the bottom says:
Picked up guns 6/10/10Paid Cash [underlined in original]
A copy of the letter is posted at this correspondents Scribd account, and a jpg version is included as this columns sidebar photo.
Dodson is the agent who put a face to the whistleblowers in Sharyl Attkissons bombshell CBS News interviews. Other sources tell Mike Vanderboegh that this letter indicates Dodson would have been fearful to proceed without documentation to prove management not only knew and approved of this activity, but had directed it.

Gunwalker ping.
Yep - sounds like a sting operation all right - except they forgot the part where they try to catch the bad guys in the act of doing something illegal.

bcsco, have you been keeping up with this insanity?
Trying to but it’s pretty convoluted. We seem to have two to three variants in the Southwest, Florida and possibly an Indiana situation that’s somewhat similar.
It’s all part and parcel. The Codrea links are pretty chronologically correct and up to date. They explain everything and tie it all together. Nachum’s list too. He has all the articles, I think, that have been posted here from ALL sources.
My daily ping has focused on illegal-immigration over the past couple years, but this being so closely related to the immigration problem on our southern border, I’ve included threads on it as well. Put me on your ping list if you will. And thanks.
Done...and you are welcome. Good to see you no matter what the circumstances...although I would prefer better ones.
Thanks for the kind words. You and marktwain have been following this issue quite well, and are the go-to FReepers for information, IMO. As I mentioned, I’ve added it as a topic because it fits with my anti-immigration ping I’ve been doing since the ‘08 primaries. Since that keeps me busy, it’s kinda hard to keep up on this topic.
Obama Administration Officials must hang for this!
I coulda swore it was an Agent Dodson to first come forward under his own name, so thanks for this. I recall thinking he must have a great bouncing big pair.
Yeah, he was afraid of having this hung around his neck. But at least he had the conscience to object and be the one to draw fire (so to speak) from his superiors and fellow agents.
He could have continued to go along to get along. He could have accepted a promotion or recall to riding a desk in Washington.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
...Nachum's list and site have been great with keeping up with all things BHO...
