"But the real question is: Does Governor Perry continue to believe that Social Security should not be a federal program, that it's unconstitutional and it should be returned to the states, or is he going to retreat from that view?"
In other words: Is my opponent an extremist who'd lead the party to ruin or a weasel who can't stand by his guns?
On the Texas economy, Romney said, "I think Governor Perry would agree with me that if youâre dealt four aces, that doesn't make you necessarily a great poker player."
Earlier Romney had sounded the same note, saying that Perry surely wouldn't take credit for Texas for having (1) no income tax; (2) lax union protections; (3) oil and gas in the ground; and (4) a Republican legislature. That would be like Al Gore taking credit for inventing the Internet, he joked.

“And you think Mutt freaking Romney is that person?”
I certainly do not.
A pox on both those RINOs, Romney and Perry.
The Republican establishment and the MSM is trying to sell us on the idea that the only choice we have is between Mittens and Rico.
That is false.
Both of you are head cases, if you think any of the current nine will be at the top of the ticket. There will be at least two more candidates enter this race, then I fully expect a challenger in the democrat race.
Feel welcome to come back and eat crow when the dust clears.
The false premise you set up is an old propaganda trick that has worked for centuries, but not this time.
Rick Perry: If you oppose illegal immigration you are divisive and anti-immigrant.
Rick Perry: If you oppose subsidizing tuition for illegals, its because you have no heart and you dont like the sound of their last name.
Rick Perry: Building a fence along the border does not make sense.
Rick Perry: We should take the illegals here now and legalize them by calling them "guest workers."
So far the only one that has shown that ability is Perry.
I don't agree with Perry on some things, but on quite a few I do. I agree with Romney on nothing.
In running for national office, suddenly he is converted and is now “pro-life”. Romney said his views have changed.
“And I get tired of people that are holier than thou because they've been pro-life longer than I have,” he said at a Republican debate on Aug. 5, 2007.

I am usually joyful when someone sees the Light and has a change of heart.
I don't want a president who says he won't do anything concerning more gun laws. I want a president who likes to shoot guns. I don't want a president who says he's now pro-life. I want a president that feels in his heart and in his guts what 100,000,000 babies ripped out of the womb does to the heart of God.
Romney is like Ron Paul.
Paul polls in the double-digits but can’t break out of the libertarian segment.
No one likes Romney outside of the RINO segment. Even Juan McCain was preferred to him by Republican primary voters.
The Republican base does not like man-made global warming shills or government-controlled healthcare shills.
Romney looks impressive, but he has a ceiling.
“The Republican base does not like man-made global warming shills or government-controlled healthcare shills.”
Before Perry joined the race, Romney led everyone else running by double digits in every poll. You need to wake up and look at the facts.
REALLY?
REALLY?
A conservative who will hold his nose and vote Romney?
You are a non establishment conservative texan?
It’s not about pure philosophies?
Rethink your post!
I AM a non establishment conservative texan and the argument you offer indicates that you are not so!
Principles and ethics are non-negotiable.
As far as your tagline,...Honor it!
Mine has been the same since the day I was priveleged enough to encounter this gathering of patriots.
You sure are for Romeny aka Obama.
bm
I remember President Giuliani leading the polls and... no wait, he never became President.
Gouliani didn’t have 200 million $$ and every Rockyfeller NE RINO and the entire MSM shilling for him either.
Ghouliani didn’t have $200 million either.
Never heard of Mitt Miller before....at any rate...30 years ago, the thought of a Latter Day Saint being a President would have been a joke. Yet another reminder how far we have sunk.
He is clueless and without integrity of any form.
Hed sell his mother let alone his nation.
Good post. Mitt is just obsessed with "becominng" President. He wants it for Mitt, not for the good of the Republic.
Mitt couldn't beat McSlime. He will NOT win much outside of (maybe) NH. He is a bore and will NOT win the GOP nomination.
Our Republic is in the process of being destroyed. People will be quite focused on finding a conservative Warrior, not a RINO technocrat.
Bs, perry is a fool, there are several real conservatives in the running.
Agree with you Clairity.
Perry clearly explained that he never said SS should be turned over to the States. He was only talking about public employees opting out, like those of Galveston, Brazoria and one other County did in Texas back in the ‘80s. Retirees from those Counties who opted to go to Private Retirement Accounts are receiving about three times the benefits they would otherwise have under SS.
I really get irate when Romney, Bachmann and Santorem continue to spin and lie about Perry’s views (as I do with others who continue to repeat those lies to demean Perry).
Even Ron Paul was spinning during the last debate when he said his taxes had gone up since Perry has been Gov. There is no State income or property tax in TX. Paul’s taxes increased because the local and County tax rates were increased or because his properties increased in value. Perry has no control over those taxes.
One other point you seem to not like President Bush.
Bush was a stealth RINO, a liberal cloaked in "right to life." He despised conservatives.
Well, wouldnt you prefer him to the current occupant of the White House?
If, because of Barack Obama, we get a conservative President, House, and Senate with which to roll back 90 years of liberalism, no. He was that bad, the perfect foil for progressivism, instituting powers and establishing precedents that leftists were just itching to wield.
Who DO you think is the perfect candidate?
Either I am talking to software or your handlers need to send you back for more training for asking such a stupid formulaic question.
I never have expected a "perfect candidate," especially when there are several who are PREFERABLE to Rick Perry: Gingrich, Bachmann, Santorum, Cain, and even Gary Johnson are, in my opinion, ALL preferable to Rick Perry (which shows what I think of him).
