Michael Vick exits with broken hand

PHILADELPHIA -- One week after suffering a concussion in a rough-and-tumble loss to the Falcons, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick broke his right hand on what he considered a late hit in Philadelphia's 29-16 loss to the rival New York Giants.

The hit in question happened in the third quarter when Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty delivered a hard shot on Vick after the quarterback completed a 23-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin.

"I was trying to protect myself," Vick said in his postgame news conference. "Still didn't get a flag and that's pretty much been the story for the last three weeks. I mean, obviously at some point something catastrophic is going to happen and I broke my hand."

It appeared on replays that Canty hit Vick in the facemask with his helmet. Vick sat on the ground, lifted his helmet off slightly before getting helped up by a teammate and an official.

"Looking at the replays, I'm on the ground every time, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated," Vick said in his postgame news conference. "The refs have got to do their jobs. And I mentioned it to the refs in training camp when I talked to them. I'm on the ground constantly, all the time. Every time I throw the ball, I'm on the ground. And I don't know why I don't get the 15-yard flags like everybody else does."

They could have thrown this son of a b*tch behind prison walls for life, and it wouldn’t have been any skin off my nose...and I don’t even like dogs that much. F the NFL for embracing scum like Vick...I have better things to do with my time than watch football; college or professional.

IN 1994, Young had 293 rushing yards and 7 rushing TD’s. Not the runner he was, but still very good for a QB.

Young was never a "running quarterback". He was a quarterback who could run, and would do so if the defense let him get a good gain by failing to cover him as a runner, but running was generally the "check-down" option for Young, with fairly few designed running plays.

Not condoning deliberate injuries in the least... and I agree with you about the punishment if it’s proven deliberate as well.

However, when I saw Vick saying that the refs weren’t protecting him as well as they should (basically), I couldn’t help but think how fitting it all was...

Poor Michael Vick - the refs aren’t making calls you like. Maybe he should shut up and consider himself lucky that the refs aren’t making him stay in the game with said broken hand and telling him “win or die”.

And seriously - purely in relation to football - if you keep getting hit by the defense CONSTANTLY, you can’t blame something like that on the refs. Either your offensive line isn’t making the necessary blocks, or you are holding on to the ball for too dang long... Blaming the refs? I don’t think so.
