ORLANDO, Fla. — Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain won the Presidency 5 straw poll here Saturday, delivering a blow to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s front-runner status and a victory for a candidate who has struggled to transform his grass-roots popularity into strong showings in national polls.

“Tonight’s winner is Herman Cain,” Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced. “It shows you something: The road to the White House comes through Florida, and it pays to spend time here.”

Mr. Cain received 37 percent of the more than 2,600 votes cast.

“Thank you to the Republican voters for this incredible honor of being named the winner of the Presidency 5 straw poll in Florida today,” Mr. Cain said. “This is a sign of our growing momentum and my candidacy that cannot be ignored. I will continue to share my message of ‘common-sense solutions’

It seems that at least SOME members of the American voting public want to redeem themselves by electing a black man with an actual functioning brain and common sense.

Works for me!

Exactly, it doesn’t matter that he disagrees with me, it matters that he went into the gutter and attacked conservatives.

When you call your own party base racist and then heartless in those 2 debates, there is a good chance you’ll lose support. The damage was totally self-inflicted.

By "base", you mean "Conservatives" and Texas is a pretty damned conservative state.

Yet, by a 98% margin, 177 to 4, the issue in question passed the Texas Legislature and would have crushingly passed, Governor's veto or no Governor's veto.

Obviously, SOMETHING ELSE besides "conservatives" was in play that maybe was a little bit more complex that can be explained by bumper sticker sound bites in a 30 second responses in the silly format that passes for a "debate" nowadays.

I do not recall any mention of "race" or "Hispanic" or "Mestizo" or "Chicano" or "Brown" or anything else even remotely related to a "race word" in the debate. Show me, in the transcript of the debate where race was EVER mentioned.

Right now, the children of the most loathsome murderers on Death Row in Texas are eligible for in-state tuition rates if they grew up in Texas during their high school years.

Those children have a despicable father, THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN (Perry used that phrase). Should they be punished as a result?

THAT is the question without the bumper sticker sound bite demagoguery.

To deny them the tuition rates that their classmates have and destroy their futures because of the sins of their murderer fathers would be "heartless".

That point is EXACTLY the point Parry was making and that point was made TO ANOTHER DEBATER ..... NOT TO YOU.

But, there you go: "Perry called his own party base racist and then heartless."

Yes, Perry should have seen Romney's tactics coming and he should have prepared for the debate better instead of being caught flat-footed and blurting out "heartless".

On the other hand, yes, you have allowed Romney's slick debating skills to play you like a cheap fiddle.

You have allowed Romney to convince you that Mitt Romney is "more conservative" than 98% of the Texas State Legislature.

Then there is the other bit of demagoguery pushed by Mitt Romney:

If you advocate BOOTS ON THE GROUND instead of spending BILLIONS on a Fence that illegals can easily jump over, cut through or dig under (as well as cut off the access of Texas ranchers to the Rio Grande), then you must be FOR illegals.

VIDEO: See how easy illegals can jump over, cut through or dig under Mitt Romney's Border Fence

Such bumper sticker demagoguery results in two big winners:

1.) Mitt Romney
2.) Raul's 21-Foot Ladder Rentals

The Rats will demonize him just like they do Allen West, Clarence Thomas, Marco Rubio. The only worse thing to them than a white Republican is an accomplished, articulate minority Republican. And they will still get >80% of the Hispanic and 95% of the Black vote since that base only cares about the handouts and freebies and not about the ethnicity of the candidate.

It doesn’t matter what the topic is. He got on national TV twice and attacked conservatives by calling them names like racist and “heartless”.

I won’t vote for him under any imaginable circumstances because I know that he doesn’t have a conservative outlook.

I don’t think he sees himself that way nor does he wish to be seen that way. That, afterall, was the core goal of the Civil Rights movement. It was corrupted by the black demigods and demrats with their group-based politics.

I think the demrats are stuck with Onada. If they try to toss him and not replace him with another Black they will lose much of the Black vote. This will doom any candidate—including Hillery or Cuomo—they try to run.

Alright. I’ve made my choice.

Last night and this morning I had several serious discussions with my family and we’ve all agreed to throw every bit of support behind Cain that we can.

Unless he *seriously* screws up, Cain just got five solid supporters and a dozen more will shortly follow.

"Perry rewrote the books with a collapse of historic proportions."

He was the fill-in-the-blanks candidate, onto whom people projected the character of a conservative, prosperous state. When he started speaking and answering questions, all the illusions crumbled -- especially when he was standing next to Herman Cain.

Ron Paul was excellent in that debate. He was at his best, and it is fair to say he won. He is a champ at expressing the Libertarian philosophy.

He hides his Code-Pink and anti-Israel baggage at these events. And if he is a Truther, that never comes up either.

Why do you seem to mock the fact that Cain was a CEO...even if it was of a pizza company? These Paulie posts are nuts...to say that this straw poll didn’t matter is bunk. And no, Paul didn’t win the debate and 37,000 people didn’t vote for him. He always wins these debates...of course, he did lose to Santorum in Fla...

Cain was a CEO of the pizza company, but was also head of the FED in KC, and managed 451 burger kings, head of restaurant associate, and held otherositions of management.

Just made my first ever contribution for a presidential run. Go Herman Cain. If Romney or Perry were to beat Obama it would feel good for about 20 seconds. A guy like Cain can truly set this country on a better path.

because he has no idea what goes on in D.C.,his ideas are nothing new.He has two rounds of cancer that make hin high risk to be elected.
