Ecstatic off a Florida straw poll victory that is sure to elevate his visibility, Republican presidential contender Herman Cain said Sunday that the GOP establishment better start paying attention because he's getting respect from voters.
"The takeaway from Florida, that we took away, is that number one, the citizens movement is more powerful than the establishment wants to give me credit for. So yes, they keep treating me like the Rodney Dangerfield of this primary contest," Cain told Fox News.
"The voters, the people out in the field are saying we want to send a message to Washington, D.C. The establishment is not going to make this call, the people are going to make the call and that's what you saw in the Florida straw poll yesterday," he said.
Cain won the straw poll decisively on Saturday, garnering 37 percent of the 2,657 votes cast. Far behind was Texas Gov. Rick Perry with 15. 4 percent and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 14 percent. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum came in fourth with 10.88 percent.
The results were a stunner to many since Cain is out-funded and doesn't have the same name recognition as other candidates like Perry, who also spent time and money on securing a strong showing at the event.
Romney had vowed before the primary season to sit out straw polls but the former Godfather's Pizza CEO has also invested his time in Florida. The winner of the straw poll wins the Florida GOP endorsement ahead of the primary, the date of which is still being disputed.

Palin, to a lesser extent, has the same problem. I was so conditioned by the Junk media, I did not take her seriously. After taking the time to learn more about her, I realize she too would be a formidable President.
YES WE CAIN!

Same here. Looking at the current pack of contenders, Cain is my choice.
Now if Jim DeMint were to enter the race, that would be a different story.
“Of those in the race currently, he is my current favorite. I’ve liked him from the beginning but did not think he had a chance. He does now.”
He’s been my favorite from the beginning. I just worry about the extreme power of the MSM as far as most people even knowing who he is. I mean, we around here are political wonks, but we’re in the minority. Even tea partiers are in the minority compared to the public at large. All the millions who don’t watch Fox News but instead watch MSNBC, CNN or network news probably aren’t hearing about Herman, at least nothing positive.
I hope I’m wrong, but the evil MSM still has a tremendous amount of control over what the average person sees and hears.
People just need to be exposed to Herman, he’s so impressive. It may need to be by word of mouth for awhile, but the more people see and hear him, the more they’ll be captivated and hopefully make those much needed campaign donations.
“The only problem that I have with Herman Cain is that he has no governing experience.”
Gosh, he’s been a Chief Executive more than once over vast numbers of people, made many good appointments, built successful teams and turned around ailing companies. He was elected and served as President of the National Restaurant Association more than one term, which is one of the largest (if not the largest?) professional association in the country. He’s an expert in numbers, budgets and economics, and - he’s got loads of common sense, solid values, strong religious faith and a deep love of our country.
He’s a problem solver who knows how to choose and enjoin exceptional people. He’s got what it takes to be OUR Chief Executive (imho :-)
“Two other concerns: * Foreign Policy experience * How healthy is he really?”
a) he’s a quick study, is better qualified in this area than the current POTUS because, unlike BHO, he wants the best for us and our country;
b) he’s 5 years cancer-free and has an eternally positive, sunny optimism which is also vital to maintaining good health. (Even his doctors said he overcame incredible odds in beating the cancer he had.)
That’ll all come out anyway, plus I’m betting he’ll pick a wonderful VP to seal the deal.
I like it...except a LOT of blacks--with Liberal encouragement--would take that as a slavery reference.
Even though of course, NONE of Obama's ancestors were slaves in America, and ALL of Cain's were...
I will be curious as to the polls for this week. I would love to see a Cain bump, but unfortunately, I think we are going to continue seeing a sub 10% number for him...The establishment candidates are going to continue to battle for the top two spots (Perry and Romney) until we see the first primaries...
FREEP THIS POLL - maybe for once we can outnumber the Ron Paul-bots:

GOP Candidates
September 23, 2011
Based on the Republican debates so far, which candidate do you favor?
Romney
Perry
Bachmann
Paul
Gingrich
Huntsman
Santorum
Cain
Justsaynomore also has a Herman ping list, you might want on it as well.
Good answer! I hope and pray this is just the beginning of a growing trend for Herman. I’ve loved him for years and really believe he could beat BHO. The debates alone would be worth the price of admission. What a mind.
We may never know if BHO’s resume or credentials are real (I suspect not). Herman’s are true.
I think Cain has exactly three weeks to use this window to gain traction with the general public. I hope he is able to break through. I wish every conservative would talk him up with their friends to see if we can’t make this happen.
Before last week there was zero chance of Cain. But events have conspired to give him a small shot at being a contender.
