Debunking the Perry Immigration Lie

Maybe Mitt Romney doesn't realize that nearly all of the rest of children of illegals had no choice in whether to live in Texas or not. If they were brought there by parents who were illegal--how is that the child's fault? Is Romney ready to charge those children with crimes? Mass deportations? Even Romney has not pledged to go that far.

This is the standard problem in a race. Perry has a long record of actually having to work in government, making executive decisions, working with a legislature, having a mixed group of constituents and dealing with hot button topics like immigration, health care, and regulation.

The other candidates are debate society candidates. They have little or no executive record (Romney is the exception) and basically are all talk. Perry has actually had a real job.

Since FR is an anti-Perry site, I think it’s probably a waste of time to post any pro-Perry articles. You get the same yada yada from the usual suspects who, for the most part, will not admit to a candidate of their own to support.

There was actually an anti-Perry who said Perry was like Dukasis. That’s how absurd it’s become. Where I live, I couldn’t find a handful of people that didn’t think George Bush, John McCain and Rick Perry were right-wingers. That includes Democrats AND Republicans. On FR, those 3 are considered not much different than Obama.

It’s a shame.

And Congress just skates along ....

Absolutely correct.

Another example of Congress' abdication of their authority and responsibility is their silence and acquiescence to Obama's "czars" system which usurps and bypasses the lawful, accountable to Congress, constitutionally-derived federal offices for administering the government.

What is striking is the presumption that America's political and cultural heritage is somehow sustained by providing free schooling to multitudes of foreign nationals and that it is Americans' constitutional duty to guarantee foreigners' children educational excellence

Thank you for taking the time to write your response in such a clear way. I appreciate your time and bet a lot of others do too. I also appreciate the opportunity to see this history and to see how it is affecting our situation and debate on immigration and immigrants today.

One of your comments struck me and took me back to our problem in Texas (and I would assume other border states and even non-border states that have received larger numbers of illegal immigrants).

You mentioned the underlying (or perhaps prominent) goal of this case was that America should guarantee educational excellence to foreign students.

I don't see that being the thought in Texas. What is mentioned there sounds kind of like a liberal gift to the lessers.

I could be wrong, but I think Texans more see it as a way to protect our communities.

Perhaps a lawyer or a politician or a psychologist might see those both as the same thing somehow, and perhaps it even doesn't make a difference at all in the scheme of things, but if I can just shed even a little bit of light to other states who don't have to deal with what we need to deal with up the street, next door, in our parks, in our extended families, everywhere we turn every day of the week, it would have been worth my time here and the few insults I received.

kabar, thank you for helping us all understand that a little more, and now we have some more to go on with this issue.

For everyone though, please at least don't look at our attempts to solve a problem as simply some means to provide little "goodies" to illegal immigrants. I don't believe that is our thought process here.

There are some here who just want the illegal immigrants tossed out immediately (if our state even COULD do that much) and some who want to just create a fresh starting point from here on out - to create a pathway to citizenship and then deport the ones who don't go through the full citizenship process or won't submit to those new rules or requirements, but ALL of us want some solution that allows us to keep going day in and day out.

I think, regardless of whether our attempted solutions were the best or not, we at least deserve a chance to try to do something that many believed would help our own communities and our own lives without being looked at as being liberals, socialists, or unAmerican.

True, that. And Congress isn't just doing the "passive" thing, it blames the Executive for failure in fiscal policy (Congress is obliged to set fiscal policy); foreign adventures (Congress has the power to declare war), etc.

And as the Plyler article points out, Congress also has the Courts that it can (falsely) blame for the condition of public policy.

Instead of being focused on the presidential race, the people should be focused on sweeping a critical mass of career politicians and their staffs out of Congress.

Read real slow, there was an exemption clause in the law for Cubans. It should have been removed years ago and has been modified, into dry foot and wet foot. Did the little boy from Cuba get to stay here, are did clintoon send him home. So if you do not know the law enforce at the time, now would be a good time to read about it. Now once again, do not mix Rubio, who as a kid was born to Cuban parents, with illegals poring across the southern border. It is not the same subject.

More bull, there are thirteen sanctuary cities in Texas, and the damn state has all of the legal power needed to stop that. And the polls show time and time again the majority of the people want the laws enforce, and none of that is spelled amnesty.

“start rounding up the childern of illegals for mass deportation at the school house doors!”

Great idea, that would make California part of America once again.

Although there is no reason to deport them to Mexico. Seems like you Perry Texans are eager to give them your state.
Enjoy.

Sorry but Perry can’t have it both ways... Just looking at the guy he looks like and sounds like a fraud and a phony. Just like Romney...

We need a real conservative who is not going to sell us out. I don’t get that feeling around Perry or Romney.

If perry was actually smart enough to write a book I might read it. But he is not. When ever you say a person, that is a law breaker, has some how earned the right to special treatment, you are pissing on the constitution.

I do not "piss" on the Constitution. I am not a Constitutional scholar. I do not understand it with all of its ramifications. I don't understand a lot of laws.

For your pleasure, I'm sure, I have a hard time reading and the one time I took an IQ test I got the score of 40. That is considered a "moron". Really. And I bet you and some of your friends would certainly enjoying calling me that. My grades did not reflect that "moron" level; I have at least a college degree; and I am married to a person with even higher education and can keep up with him, but there are many times I am challenged and I remember that moron IQ score. There are REASONS I remember that moron score.

So if I say something that sounds to you like I'm "pissing" on the Constitution, you all can know that I'm just being stupid, naive, or maybe I'm even right sometimes and you just don't like it or understand it.

But let me share something with you, and I hope all those who take a stand for something (or again something) and get mocked will see this and feel some comfort in it possibly:

Our country with its Constitutional foundation is stronger than my 40 IQ score or someone's plain nativity or even ignorance.

And if I DIDN'T want smarter people than I helping EVERYONE out here, I wouldn't be talking at all.

It's when we come together and give our minds a work out, big minds and small alike, that we can find some solutions that really work while still preserving that wonderful piece of intelligence, our Constitution, which none of us could EVER have come up with on our own.

I am quite capable of writing a constitution should I desire. Have the same educational experience as jorge, plus. Now, none of that has anything to do with how incompetent an amnesty supporter like Perry is.

“Some poster here said Perry threw himself under the bus. It seems to me that The United States of America has thrown TEXAS under the bus”

Oh? Well maybe you should have told that sob story to Dubya, your former TEXAS governor, who did his damnedest to amnesty all the illegals.

If illegals are wrecking your state, which they probably are, then maybe the politicians from Texas should think about deporting them.

I could be wrong, but I think Texans more see it as a way to protect our communities.

It is pure political pandering in the hope that you can get a significant portion of the Hispanic vote. According to the Pew Hispanic Center for 2010, there are 9.5 million Hispanics in Texas, second largest in the nation after CA. It amounts to 37.6% of the total population second only to NM with 46.3%. In 2000, the numbers for Texas were 6.7 million and 32%.

The Hispanic population in Texas for children, i.e., those under 18, is 2.4 million or 48.3% of the children population under 18 up from the 41% in 2000.

According to Pew, there are 1.5 million to 1.9 million illegal aliens in Texas (2010). There are an estimated 1.1 million illegal aliens in the Texas workforce or 9% of the total workforce. By comaparison, the estimated number of illegal aliens in Texas in 1990 was 450,000 and in 2000, 1.1 million.

In the decade from 2000 to 2010, the Mexican-American population grew by 7.2 million as a result of births and 4.2 million as a result of new immigrant arrivals. At 31.8 million in 2010, Mexican-Americans comprise 63% of the U.S. Hispanic population and 10% of the total U.S. population (Ennis, Ríos-Vargas and Albert, 2011).

According to Pew Hispanic Center tabulations from the March 2010 U.S. Current Population Survey, 39% of Mexican-Americans—or 12.4 million—are immigrants. With the exception of Russia, no other country in the world has as many immigrants from all countries as the U.S. has from Mexico alone. Nor does any country in the world have as many citizens living abroad as does Mexico. According to the World Bank (2011), more than 10% of Mexico’s native-born population lives elsewhere, with the vast majority (97%) of these expatriates living in the United States.

I think, regardless of whether our attempted solutions were the best or not, we at least deserve a chance to try to do something that many believed would help our own communities and our own lives without being looked at as being liberals, socialists, or unAmerican.

We need long term solutions. Pandering for the purposes of political expediency is not the right way to go. When you reward something, you get more of it. In 1986 we had a one-time amnesty. The USG estimated that 1 million would apply, but the true number turned out to be 2.7 million. We now have 12 to 20 million illegal aliens waiting for a second amnesty.

The Heritage Foundation concluded that the cost of amnesty alone would be $2.6 trillion. And the number of additional LEGAL immigrants who would join those who were the recipients of amnesty through chain migration, i.e., family reunification, would approach 70 million over a 20-year period, assuming there are only 12 million illegal aliens. We cannot assimilate such numbers. An amnesty would destroy the United States of America with the stroke of a pen.

Please don’t ever disrespect yourself in a debate. I appreciate your honesty, but do not think for a second it will convince someone to listen to you. It will do just the opposite.

There are “book smart” and “street smart” people. It’s just about your passion. Ever here of the 10,000 hour rule? If you have, then please excuse me. Basically it says if an average person spends 10,000 hours on anything... they will master it. It has a lot to do with heart/passion that’s all.

Now going back to what you said. It’s important to always listen and keep an open mind (even from a nut job Leftist). You can always learn something new, and it will make you better at understanding what you already know.

At any rate, you should try taking a an IQ test again. I bet you would score a lot higher than a 40. Good luck with life and Godspeed.

I’ve not seen that in her posts, all I’ve seen is educated well thought out responses from someone who deals with the reality that is Texas and the influx of illegals and the none response and cooperation from our Federal Government who’s duty it is to protect our borders. Now your posts are a different thing they come across more as the braying of an ass in the pasture, he doesn’t know what he wants but he knows he’ll get attention if he just keeps on braying, and may I add crude and disrespectful.

How about this: don't give them welfare benefits...period!

Instate tuition is a drop in the bucket.
