Rick Perry's campaign stuggles to explain straw poll loss

Reporting from Tampa, Fla. -- A black, threatening cloud hung low over the Orange County Convention Center on Saturday evening as top members of Gov. Rick Perry’s brain trust left a place their candidate would love to forget.

At best half showed up, leaving tables groaning with uneaten bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon and fruit cocktail. At the end of the governor’s rather perfunctory eight-minute speech, the breakfast crowd offered a rather perfunctory round of applause, the first public clue that all might not be going well in Perryville.

The Texan’s campaign fielded the largest cadre of volunteers and paid staff at the event. His staffers, wires dangling from their ears (a touch, and expense, that no other campaign matched), were very much in evidence Saturday inside the convention hall, as they distributed signs and buttonholed delegates. Another visible sign of the considerable investment Perry made in Florida: signage that included a huge banner, hanging in the foyer of the convention hall, which greeted the 3,000 delegates, starting on debate night; Perry’s campaign paid an undisclosed sum to the state party for the privilege.

No Dio, YOU have been the Rove puppet, you just don’t know it yet. Just like a lot of you were the McCain puppets in the last election.

This native Texan has been telling all the Perry-winkles that the guy was a dolt who has the IQ of a can of Spam and would, in short order, fall like a rock. Well.....HELLO.......

How could you read the article and still ask that question?

I mean the whole point of the article is to answer that question.

Let me explain for you, no there is not time, let me sum up:

Perry went all out to win the straw poll, big bucks spent.
Romney barely paid attention to it.

Good comment. Perry and friends can try to walk it back all they want, but it won’t work. We’re tired of being called names by our “betters.” They don’t seem to understand that we’re taking back our nation and they should kiss the ground they walk on that we have yet to come for their sorry heads.

Perry has pretty much the same problem that Romney has - he tries to sound conservative, but he isn't conservative at his core. No suprise that both of these guys were Dems at one time - neither has completely shed that background, and neither one is any good at keeping their actions consistent with their rhetoric. I'm sure both would be far more preferable than Obama, but they aren't what the doctor is ordering for this country. This appears to be the perfect entry point for Palin, whose "will I or won't I" act is getting tiring, as well.

Perry’s never had any hard core supporters. His support was always a mile wide and an inch deep.

The guy always said he WAS NOT running for President. People never followed him except what they heard superficially on the news.

So, he then decides to run in late summer (Aug 13) because he’s been pushed by beltway insiders and Texas fundraisers. So, people, seeing a weak Bachmann plus a cast of nobodies, versus Romney, people blindly and giddily jump into the Perry bandwagon, clueless as to what kind of a vehicle they’re jumping into. So, despite many warnings, LO and BEHOLD, the vehicle is not a BMW and begins to sputter right after a few curves, and very easily it’s not a bandwagon anymore.

Then they are fools

Yes, you've already said that about them and they've heard that loud and clear.

It’s ok, it’s their “culture”. Liberals can be racist because it is not their fault but a religion for them. (src off)

Perry showed everyone how to commit political suicide. He lost my vote over the illegal education debacle. I cannot vote for someone who puts a lawbreaker above a taxpaying American citizen or their children.

The media really don’t want Rick Perry to get the nomination. They are so transparent.

Maybe he can run for president of mexico.

Appears as tho most of his Texas constituents are Mexicans, and most of them illegals...Perhaps he hasn't figured out yet that Texas is not a reflection of the rest of the country...

I’ve liked Perry so far.

Likely, he’ll bounce back - which actually is the true measure. Anyone we put at the front of our ticket will be pounded.

If that person can take it, it will be evident quickly.

Cain will start to draw fire now. Perry claimed in a debate, to be ready for it.

Palin’s been subjected to the worst. Bachmann has taken her own rough treatment.

King of the hill, is what’s happening on our side now.

I do think, Perry *needs* to communicate and stop the mis-perception (if that’s what it is) that he’s just another open-borders globalist.

That’s certainly not going to win anyone’s vote.

Perry’s not out of this yet. Let’s see what he’s got.

Nope, I'm just telling you the facts. I tried to warn everyone about Fred Thompson last time and nobody listened. Even had a very good friend who sent in her ballot the day before he quit. I'm just watching from the sideline, haven't decided anything, but I do hate unfairness of any type. Also hate to see good people being used by some rather unscrupulous people.

NOBODY should be making up their minds yet.

I think you are missing the point.

Yes, there are those that hate Perry. But most like me were supporting Perry (as a backup) right up until/and during the debate.

We looked past some shaky issues.

And we aren’t bailing on Perry now for being a so-called RINO or even his shaky debate performances. It’s how he has insulted basically the entire base by calling them heartless racists.

The LA Times is happy and sad at the same time. They are unhappy with Caine since he's not in favor of keeping the Hispanic illegal aliens around. They were unhappy with Perry because they didn't imagine he'd be all that much in favor of gay marriage, but he was in on the Hispanic servant class thing.

Then there's MR.MAGIC, Mitt Romney. He let that Massachusetts court allow the legislature to wrestle him to the ground and stick his nose right in gay marriage ~ and he sniffed it and loved it.

He was pretty much a pushover for their currently ruinously expensive health insurance plan.

If anyone, Romney was the LA Times candidate. They know they're going to lose Obama.

It’s weird indeed. Powers that be seem to want to shape things. I remember when Bush2 ran, he was the most disfavored and people calling in support of others were knocked off the airwaves for supporting candidates shaking things away from the current program.
