Reporting from Tampa, Fla. -- A black, threatening cloud hung low over the Orange County Convention Center on Saturday evening as top members of Gov. Rick Perrys brain trust left a place their candidate would love to forget.
At best half showed up, leaving tables groaning with uneaten bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon and fruit cocktail. At the end of the governors rather perfunctory eight-minute speech, the breakfast crowd offered a rather perfunctory round of applause, the first public clue that all might not be going well in Perryville.
The Texans campaign fielded the largest cadre of volunteers and paid staff at the event. His staffers, wires dangling from their ears (a touch, and expense, that no other campaign matched), were very much in evidence Saturday inside the convention hall, as they distributed signs and buttonholed delegates. Another visible sign of the considerable investment Perry made in Florida: signage that included a huge banner, hanging in the foyer of the convention hall, which greeted the 3,000 delegates, starting on debate night; Perrys campaign paid an undisclosed sum to the state party for the privilege.

Most elections in my lifetime were won because the voters threw the rascal out. Few are won, many are lost.
“..Then he (Perry) accused his own voting base of being racist and heartless.”
I’m well aware of the latter (heartless) but not of the former (racist). Could you source that please (specific not implied)?
Gnight all
I don’t know what makes you so stupid, but it’s really working.
I must beg to disagree.
An employer is most able to run a a potential employee thru e-verify.
If I misspoke, I apolgize. If the SS number is in question, one cannot question or not hire that potential employee. The potential employer can only inform the potential employee that there is a problem.
“I agree 100 percent, and I’m just sickened by all these elitists around here who insist that being a stone-cold moron is some kind of “disqualification” for a candidate.”
A kudos award will be presented to the Freeper that tells the best Aggie joke about Rick. I would give my Red Rider BB gun to the winner but that person might live in CA and therefore would be ineligible to own it.
He has admitted he is no good at debate. He is not, lol.
We shall see what happens.
Texas has had, and always will have, a “special relationship” with Mexico.
There are Tejano families that have been there since independence from Mexico.
No governor of Texas (as long as they elect them) is going to be a restrictionist.
That said, I posted here in early September that Perry wouldn’t last until Thanksgiving, and nothing so far has changed my mind.
he’s wearing mandals which is why it’s on my girlie pic collection
I note that there are no CAjano Family’s, No AZhano Family’s, No NMeuvo NMexicano Family’s.
Yes Texas has its own history and Tejano is a word that entered the lexicon long before Perry was born.
To hang the Border problem around Rick Perrys neck is a wrong.
I just recently heard of Mandals.
What a dingus
Well Honesty is a virtue
Anybody who parachutes into the race at the top is going to be hit hard. Every fresh candidate has personal and issue vulnerabilities. Every candidate will stumble into disasters.
Perry should have run for president in 2008 and cleared up those questions then. The vaccine issue is relatively easy — it should have been opt-in instead of opt-out. Social Security — he could say that I’m calling attention to a serious problem, yes Ponzi scheme, and here’s my plan.
Being nice to illegals is a tougher nut to crack. He could have taken his hits on this issue in 2008 and spent the next four years proving that he is tough on illegal immigration.
Then he’d be ready for 2011-12. Presumably, he’d be a better debater too. Both the great Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton suffered lower-level defeats before getting elected prez. Perry has never lost an election in his life.
Getting elected to the top job requires experience and pain and recovery. Unless you’re hoisted on the shoulders of the media like O’Bummer.
I don’t like that prospect of “his turn” either. ESPECIALLY for Romney. I hope Perry becomes a better campaigner fast.
But as I pointed out in post 295, it usually takes a long time to get elected president. You have to take your lumps, figure out what you did wrong, and come back strong. Even Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton suffered major reverses — spending years in political rehab and recovery — before getting elected to the highest office in the land.
I agree we are in terrible times. But Perry doesn’t have much time to improve.
[Now, THERE is the sign of a PerryBOT.]
Americans who watched saw signs of chronic bad (RINO) judgment.
Warning! Gratuitous pop-culture analogy!

The “racist” is the inferential “sound of their last names” thing. That’s how the Leftwingtards and their running dog lackeys mean it ~ to call our guys “racist”.
Not just ONE Profession, but TWO. He has avoided all of that until now.
