In a severe embarrassment for the Republican presidential frontrunner, businessman Herman Cain tripped up Gov. Rick Perry in a straw ballot of Florida Republican activists Saturday.
The vote has no bearing on the choice of a 2012 nominee but, along with recent campaign events, is likely to increase the chances that the Republican presidential contest will tighten. It comes on the heels of a poor performance by Perry in a Florida debate Thursday night that disappointed conservatives, including delegates who came to Orlando expecting to back the Texas governor.
Cain received 37% of the vote, more than twice as many as Perry, who made by far the most extensive effort, but finished a distant second with 15%. He barely edged out Mitt Romney, who did not compete here, at 14%.

Technically, yes they can. However, the state they both live in will not be allowed to cast their electoral votes for that ticket. So Georgia would have to get taken out of play. However the electoral votes would not be assigned to the Democrats (unless they won that state outright on their own).
I don't know. How can that be? Obama's maternal ancestors OWNED slaves. Perhaps they were the owners of Cain's ancestors, who knows.
Me too!
You have absolutely no shame. Disgusting.
Yes, Perry ‘take it or leave it’ approach to immigration has hurt him. He supports something the base of the party is viscerally opposed to, which is a shame because in some ways he was an attractive candidate. “Arlen Specter” in cowboy boots is how Jerry Doyle” describes him.
How does this AFFECT the rest of the candidates?-fixed it!
I doubt that is true but if it was, it would be kind of dumb because it could have denied Romney an outright victory as his vote total was almost equal to Perry's.
You're right, Mike!
All Herman Cain needs to get his campaign really humming is some name recognition. This gives him that and when people start tuning into what he says it can only help him!
Me too!
From the article:

Thanks for posting the FL straw poll record. The author clearly needs to bone up on political election history.
Wouldn't that little tidbit be a trip? LOL!
And so, it continues to be a process of elimination in an embarrassingly weak field. Cain's victory here will earn him some real attention. He's managed to get himself into the conversation for real now, and we'll see what he's able to do with it.
The fact that Newt and Santorum were passed over as the next viable option means they are done as well.
And if you're Romney, you have to realize by now that no one really wants you. They'll do anything to find someone else. And yet, we could still end up with Romney if someone doesn't take the opportunity and do something with it.
Cain has his flaws. But in a pathetic field, he's got a chance now. Should get very interesting.
In case you haven’t noticed. NumbersUSA just scuttled states rights in enforcing immigration law by allowing the CHAMBER & BUDS in DC to PREEMPT the victory on this in US CHamber v. Whiting. They were so EAGER to pass 2885 through on National E-Verify they forgot to consider the long list of supporters for the bill. US CHAMBER and every illegal alien hiring company in the USA was behind this bill.
I have already clicked “unsubscribe”
PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO KRIS KOBACH INSTEAD OF NUMBERSUSA.
"...NAAAAAAH !"
You guys are just heartless!
Mr. Cain needs our full support. Time to fill his coffers with lots of coin. God knows he’s gonna need every penny he can get.
