In a severe embarrassment for the Republican presidential frontrunner, businessman Herman Cain tripped up Gov. Rick Perry in a straw ballot of Florida Republican activists Saturday.
The vote has no bearing on the choice of a 2012 nominee but, along with recent campaign events, is likely to increase the chances that the Republican presidential contest will tighten. It comes on the heels of a poor performance by Perry in a Florida debate Thursday night that disappointed conservatives, including delegates who came to Orlando expecting to back the Texas governor.
Cain received 37% of the vote, more than twice as many as Perry, who made by far the most extensive effort, but finished a distant second with 15%. He barely edged out Mitt Romney, who did not compete here, at 14%.

You would like Perry to quit wouldn’t you. How much is the DNC paying you to come and put disinformation on line here?
I like Herman fine. I just don’t think he can win a national race. He would make a great VP though. The straw poll was actually a very small sample of people and is not likely to show truly what will happen here in Florida. I am from TX, know what Perry stands for, voted for him in 4 elections and will again.
>Cain needs to watch his back.<
.
Not as much as if he were white. Cain can attack Al and Jessie on their own ground and will not have to be afraid for a backlash. In fact, conservatives will cheer him on.
Al, Bambi and Jessie can never accuse Cain for being racist.
We shall see. Perry has looked weak to me. Cain has been on point. Still a long way to go and anything can happen.
On dirty tricks.
This was a tweet, South40, It was simply reported. I did not believe it. As I said, there is no way to tell if it is true. Nevermind that it didn’t make any sense.
These Perry-bots just don’t want to believe his record.
Anyway, he’s toast, just as I predicted last month. I didn’t believe he could hold on after mid Septenber.
Records refuse to hide.
The tweet was the dirty, lying trick.
................I have a hunch we could see a Cain/Newt2012 Ticket................
Don’t think so! Newt loves to be in front of a camera too much. Don’t need to undercut a President.
OK.
“LOL, great title - it makes it sound like Herman Cain said something to make Rick Perry burst into tears.”
You mean heartless conservatives!
>> “He’s managed to get himself into the conversation for real now, and we’ll see what he’s able to do with it.” <<
.
Palin’s VP for sure.

As it became increasingly clear that Perry was faltering, a prominent Perry supporter, state Rep. Matt Gaetz, claimed in a Twitter post that Romneys campaign had been encouraging its backers to vote for Cain. A competing rumor, hours earlier, had the Romney camp secretly supporting Ron Paul.
But interviews with delegates indicated that a far more likely reason for Perrys defeat: a subpar performance in a Florida debate two days earlierin which he fumbled answers and alienated social conservatives by calling critics of his immigration record heartless.
“Herman Cain could be the MAN who will change EVERYTHING.. and for the BETTER.”
yes and he is a real MAN, not some wussie crybaby metrosexual
“The tweet was the dirty, lying trick.”
Yes. Agreed. Skewing the results for what, is what I wondered. It was weird, and no media has reported such a thing that I know of.
“How’d you get that null character in your post?I can copy/paste it from your post, but it’s not a standard ASCII character as far as I know.”
On a Windows machine, I believe you need a degree in Perl and $500 to do it.
But since I use a Mac, it’s Shift > Option > O.
;-/
>>> Rita, here’s a little more info on the ‘rumor’ that Romney had instructed his delegates to vote for Cain. “ <<<
Now that makes more sense. Couldn’t figure out why Romney would want to do twist delegates. Perry’s guy might have more of a motive to rumor. Shillacked is a precarious place to be.
I posted: “Support for affirmative action and allowing open homosexuals in his cabinet sure to draw some fire as conservatives start to scrutinize him more.”
You replied: “You have absolutely no shame. Disgusting.”
Are you saying these are not his positions or are you just upset that the vetting process will now begin in earnest since he scored a big victory?
But since I use a Mac, its Shift > Option > O.
Guess I'm out of luck. I run Linux.
I found that the FF plugin I use for FR posting will do it for me.
It will do a bunch more too. ÒÓÔÕÖðæ :-)
