Perry on Border Security
Office of Gov. of Texas ^ | Sept 2011 | Office of Gov. of Texas

Posted on 09/24/2011 7:43:22 AM PDT by Clairity

Governing Principle

There can be no homeland security without border security, and there can be no higher priority than protecting our citizens.

While our focus begins with preventing the worst of the violence currently raging in northern Mexico from spilling over into the United States, the violence is only part of the destruction that can result from a porous border. The free flow of drugs, weapons and people resulting from inadequate security can undercut economic development, education and trade. As such, they can hurt Texas families in every way imaginable, from loss of jobs to the loss of family members to addiction, imprisonment or death.

Border security is a federal responsibility but a Texas problem, and Texas has invested hundreds of millions of state dollars in efforts to support and supplement security forces already in place. Still, this is a problem that will only be solved with more federal accountability and involvement.

Highlights

-- Starting in 2005 with Operation Linebacker, the state has sought to provide funding, manpower and equipment to local law enforcement agencies operating along the Texas-Mexico border.

-- The state's latest operation, Border Star, builds on the successes of previous operations with unprecedented local, state and federal law enforcement coordination. With the assistance of the 80th and 81st Legislatures, the State of Texas has been able to appropriate more than $110 million each session to fund and amplify these efforts.

-- In response to a rising tide of gang violence in Texas communities, the Governor allocated $4 million in criminal justice grants to cities across the state to increase patrols of gang hotspots. In 2009, Gov. Perry worked to secure more than $10 million in state funding for enhanced anti-gang efforts during the 2010-11 biennium.

-- In September 2009, Gov. Perry announced the formation of highly-skilled Ranger Recon Teams — which include Texas Rangers, Texas National Guard Counterdrug forces, Highway Patrol and DPS Aviation assets — in order to address threats building in the unincorporated areas along the Texas-Mexico border.

-- Since early 2009, Gov. Perry has repeatedly called on Washington to authorize the deployment of 1,000 Title 32 National Guard soldiers to the Texas-Mexico border to support border security operations currently underway. (see letter to President Obama, letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and request to Defense Secretary Gates)

--Gov. Perry has also recommended an expeditious deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles to provide real-time surveillance and intelligence to law enforcement on the ground.

So whatever form of border "security" is cheapest gets your vote, or whatever Ricardo says?

If Perry becomes President, will he keep the White House fence or have a couple surveillance fly-overs and call it a day?

If your last name sounds different, or you were brought into the country illegally as a child through no fault of your own, can you freely wander the President Perry's White House?

Why is it We the People have to BOHICA for Shamnesty, but the ruling elites in DC get their security??

Thanks for posting the info. I've been amused and outraged by Perry's shenanigans for years, but I must say seeing them in laundry list form is stunning. This guy is a world class good ol' boy crony politician. If money pots were hot pies every one of Ricardo Perry's fingers and toes would be blistered. Ma Ferguson would be proud.

Good job on getting the scoop on Perry. The guy is as bad as GWB on illegal immigrants, remember how DA Bush put those Border Patrol agents in prison w/ GD Mexicans! That was when I gave up on Bush. The Perry supporters sound like they are leftover from Perry’s daze of supporting Rats like Al Gore....nasty little leftys!

Illegal aliens cannot legally get financial aid from the government. It’s only for citizens and green card holders and select non-citizens.

Illegals pay their own tuition.

I mean REALLY.

So you expect the Feds to round up millions of illegals and put them on trains for the border.

REALLY?

Welfare rules are determined by States. And guess what if you have workers in those offices that are willing to ignore the Law they will get the benefits.
What are you going to do about teachers unions that demand their members NOT turn in illegals kids.

If you haven’t heard Mx is in the death throws of a Civil War. Nothing short of AMERICAN TROOPS on the BORDER is going to even make a dent.

they are already killing Americans in TX.
And pAHLEEZE don’t mention that stupid WALL BS.
No way are Texas Farmers and Ranchers going to allow the water to be given to MX.

DO YOU REALIZE THE RIO GRANDE RIVER IS THE BORDER?

Are you suggesting we should cut of the farmers and Ranchers from WATER?

They won't, but they should. During Operation Wetback the INS estimated that between 500,000 and 700,000 left of their own accord. Once the deportations start in earnest most would leave voluntarily -- no need for trains. Especially if that's combined with cutting off their welfare freebies. Just sit back and watch the exodus back to Mx. But our cowardly, wussfied pols won't do it.

As far as putting troops on the border, you're preachin' to the choir, chief.

You’re right. Changing the business climate in the USA will dry up money making opportunities and those illegals that come for honest (if off the books) work won’t make the journey, and those here will likely return home.

Ok well do you think they will make for a run to the border when they will be met by murdering drug cartels?

I think our only options right now are to bring our troops home from third world cesspools, and put them on our Border to protect us. Besides being anImmigrtion issue more importantly it is a NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE.

If there's no money and no gov't welfare to be had up here, they'll return home. The cartels are concentrated in certain areas of the border -- there are plenty of (relatively) safe corridors back.

bring our troops home from third world cesspools

I'm with ya there. But alas, the gubmint's primary border security concerns are in Iraq and Afghanistan. Traitorous bastids.

“...it is a NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE.”

You betcha it is. My local reporter, John Farmer of WSBTV went to the border for a report. There he observed muslim prayer maps in the trash left by illegal muslim invaders. Lots of them.

Secure the border, you idiots.

Maybe this might help those who don’t live in Texas:

El Paso is our Border on the Norhwest and Brownsville on the South. The Mexico and United States Border is halfway across the Rio Grande River. (That in itself is a nightmare) This is 1200 miles of border region. From El Paso to Del Rio, Texas is about 500 miles. There are three crossings along this 500 miles. (Where people can drive across) The largest being Presidio, Texas) This crossing is mostly used to cross Mexico Farm products into the United States. From this crossing on to Del Rio you will find very rugged lands. Some of it runs through Big Bend National Parks. Let’s just look at this region and leave the other
700 miles out) This 500 miles is vasty unpopulated. A fence just on our river side would be cut, dug under or ladders used to cross. It would take a lot of man power just to guard the fence.

So you say, “What do we do to stop them from crossing?’ Air power of any kind would help. Stepping back and letting the Border Patrol do their job would make a lot of difference. The way the laws are now they are afraid to fire their weapons for fear of a prison sentenance.

The fence has had some success along some Arizona ranch land that the terraine is much different then some of the Texas land. We have not even talked about California where they do little to stop the flow.

So close your eyes and think of this army that is moving into our country at a very fast pace and we know not who they are. We can stop this and send them home in very short order but it will take our people to demand it. It will make us pay higher prices. Are you willing? If you are then stop the hiring and make the fines so high that one cannot take the chance to hire.
