With a House Republican loading political ammunition in a national fight over government science, Interior Department officials said Friday they would stand by the work of two scientists whose integrity was attacked recently by a federal judge overseeing the Delta water wars.
U.S. District Judge Oliver Wanger, in a lengthy and strongly worded assault Sept. 16, said the two scientists deliberately misled him when they urged him not to weaken new rules meant to help imperiled Delta smelt in wet years like this one.
He called one scientist, Jennifer Norris of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a "zealot" who is unwilling to change her opinion even in the face of changing facts and said she and Fred Feyrer of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation had acted in bad faith.
He was critical because he said a fish and water issue originally presented as a lost opportunity came back in a new hearing as an extinction issue.
"The only inference that the court can draw is that it is an attempt to mislead and to deceive the court into accepting what is not only not the best available science, it's not science. There is speculation," according to a preliminary transcript of his comments.
The comments, made just weeks before Wanger is scheduled to retire from the bench to return to private law practice, have led to at least one call for congressional hearings and could provide ammunition to opponents of the Obama administration's environmental policies.

Gives one hope that a judge might have something to say about CO2 being a pollutant!
These two scumbags Norris and Feyrer are not scientists, they are corrupt political hacks.
It is cronyism and it permeates everything. You really have not experienced it fully until you watch a well respected person stand up and flat out lie about you to a public audience. People that lack morals tend to gravitate toward the cronyism. So we are significantly outnumbered.

Thanks, Jeff, for that insight and for your work to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of this Republic.
It’s very unfortunate that the scientific community has produced so much poorly researched junk science about endangered species and especially about global warming. I have no doubt that ultimately the theory of global warming caused by CO2 will be proven completely wrong. These junk scientists have done great damage to legitimate environmental causes and will make it much more difficult to convince the public about real environmental threats in the future. Many scientists have displayed shockingly bad judgement by jumping on the global warming bandwagon for fun and profit even thought global warming theory is extremely shaky and is strongly contradicted by the earth’s temperature history (especially the decline in average temperatures over the last eight years). I suspect that industrial chemicals in the environment contribute to the epidemic of cancer in the western world, but now that scientists have lost so much credibility because of the global warming hoax, it’s going to be much more difficult to make the case for stronger regulation of certain industrial chemicals.
Jeff, it is so good to see you posting again!
The wider world needs to know about this, from the inside. Keep posting what you know! Or shoot, get it to someone here you trust and have them post it. Corruption hates the light of day... I will help draw the blinds aside if I can!
